Yep, flowers are blooming right now. But still lots of snow. Gonna head back up in a month or so when the snow melts and more trails are passable.

I think that those of us who own the 2.7L and do our own oil changes have gone through all of these techniques and more.

What works for me is using the XL plastic soda cups from fast food restaurants. They are the ones with a narrow bottom and fat top. From underneath, I loosen the filter until it's about to drip oil. At that point, I slip the cup over the oil filter, and loosen it the rest of the way with the cup. Once free, it drops right in, fitting perfectly in the narrow portion of the cup. No spills at all.

Thank's man! Thank you for all the advice and shock specs! I'm racing to the finish line to get this truck ready for a trip next Tuesday.

Got my Blackstone report back for the new truck and confirmed what I was suspecting. The old air flow tube from the filter to throttle body was dried and cracked so i’m not surprised if some dust/dirt got into the engine. Still need to seal up some cracks in the air filter box and replace all my dry rotted vacuum lines and it should be dirt proof moving forward. Fresh synthetic and the new air flow tube should help a lot though.

Hopefully it’ll level out after the next oil change. Kinda of bummed on these results, wish the previous owners would’ve taken better care of it, but those are the breaks.

    Hey Patrick, Hide your information.

Wow, Silicon is extremely high.... Like you said, dust bypassed the filter. What oil was in there? Plenty of Moly and quite alot of Calcium? Is this Toyota Genuine Oil by any chance? Very stout add pack.

Lots of wear across the spectrum. 2-3,000 miles until you get it sorted

It’s all outdated info, I just never updated it. Good lookin out though

It was a firestone oil change prior to my ownership. I’m pretty sure it was the cheapest conventional they offered, so 6500 miles was starting to push it. I was planning on pulling it again in 4000 to see if any improvements were made.

If you reach 88mph, maybe you can go back before you ever got that check engine light on.

:anonymous: Holy hell it sucked the first time because the PO had the filter tight as hell. Then once I finally got it off I about poured it all over the ground trying to navigate it around the steering rack/cross member :bananadead:
