So, I just dropped off my Tacoma for 20k service this afternoon. I'm having them take a look at the A/C whistle noise again (visit #5, thread) and the fact that my brake pedal goes all the way to the floor.

They called me back and said they couldn't replicate the brake issue, that the brakes are working fine.

Someone double-check me on this because maybe the Taco is different from the other 12 vehicles I have owned in my life and different from the other two sitting in the garage and maybe it's different from everything I understand about vehicle brakes.

Should I be able to push the brake pedal to the floor when the truck is running? It's pretty stiff when the truck is off.

I had a similar issue several months ago on my Dodge Nitro. The culprit was a failing master cylinder:

One of the first symptoms commonly associated with a bad or failing brake master cylinder is abnormal brake pedal behavior. The master cylinder is the component that generates all of the pressure for the braking system, and if it develops any sort of problems sealing or distributing pressure, this may be felt in the pedal. Over time, with constant use, the seals inside of the cylinder can wear out and form internal leaks. A bad brake master cylinder may result in a pedal that feels mushy, spongy, or that slowly sinks to the floor when depressed.

    Crossing my fingers for you...

My Taco brakes pedals feel and operate more or less the same as any other vehicle that I have had with a vacuum booster. I can shove the pedal to the floor if I stand on it, but in general, it takes significant effort to go much more than half way.

Don't worry. Before too long, the brakes will totally fail, you'll wreck and then you can sue the dealer and Toyota. Just sayin'.
Really though, I too have had a master cylinder fail (not Toyota, but Ford) as shit got real, really quick. Open a case with corporate to cover your ass.

When you pick up the truck, have a service advisor sit with you in the truck so they can see/feel for themselves about the brake pedal issue. That should get their attention. If you don't satisfaction, open a case with Corporate.

    Give him a break.
Napoleon has a Mommy and Daddy Ford Ranger truck according to this article, hilarious ! Sure looks like one I have to agree.

Heard there is a recall on the Ranger already for a roll away situation when in park.

Definitely not normal. Seek out a new dealer or go back and hassle them about it. If they send you out the door saying it’s normal they should have some liability if something happened due to your pedal not functioning properly. Could be your master cylinder or as simple as needing to have the system bled.

Normal. You’re supposed to max the pedal to the floor with your right foot and drag the other on the ground out of the open door. It’s in the manual. Didn’t you read it?

    Here are the on-vehicle inspections...
If something don't jibe, it ought to give you some ammo.

There's also a way to pull codes with a jumper in the OBD2 and monitoring the blinking ABS light. It's not as good as a scanner, as it has some codes grouped together. If you'd like, I can post it.
