PPF is a personal decision. It’s a form of insurance, that comes with a price point up front. Paying to repaint a vehicle comes with a cost, and it’s never blended perfectly like from the factory. Go through insurance, it’s on your car fax. Pay out of pocket, then try to trade in, good luck. Every vehicle I traded in the dealership takes a paint meter to the car. Once car is repainted it will cost you in trade value.
There is no right or wrong decision, just preference.

But...it's $5k+. lol It's a truck, not a museum piece. But hey, folks can do what they want.

Your right, it’s not a museum piece, and that’s the reason to protect the paint. It’s out in the elements and PPF provides a solution. You are fixated on price, 5K to some is major money to others is play money. It’s risk v reward and what’s the proper solution for each individual.

For some, they just spent $40k+ on a vehicle.
It could be *their* museum piece, let alone their pride and joy.

Like I said.. PPF is a preference item and does hold it place.

How does this stuff hold up off road? I'm assuming it scratches pretty easily like any other vinyl film?

Scratching self heals in direct sunlight. If the wrap is penetrated, it’s warrantied for 10 years. Xpel will replace the section if it tears.

Don't you also have to maintain Xpel with buffing and etc?

No maintenance other than washing. Also rubbing alcohol will remove tree sap, bird dodo, you get the point.

It's a truck so dealers and buyers aren't going to be that picky about a small paint chip. I could maybe see doing this if it was a 993 TT Porsche, but even then I still wouldn't do it.

$5k is a lot to chew on. Just wait till you see how bad the bed plastic scratches and door panels.

Does tree sap, bird $hit, etc. *require* rubbing alcohol for removal from this product?

It done for a show truck, I could completely understand. But for an everyday driver, just wouldn’t make sense to me. When rock chips and marks happen, which they will, it just negates the entire 5k spent. To each his own.

    But it does look good.

Bed plastic and trim are easily replaced and cheap. I have a P car that I PPF and see no difference in the decision making for me. I don’t want paint chips, I don’t want a re spray. You are fixated on 5K or whatever it costs. If it’s out of you budget, I get. If PPF isn’t for you, I get it.
I posted this thread so others would have information to make an informed decision. I get the feeling you are trolling this thread to piss on it.

Does this prevent paint chips (grocery carts, rock spray, etc.)?

I don’t see him trolling at all, simply stating his opinion on your choice and post. I can see both sides of the argument tho. Not for me tho

Most stains come out with regular washing. If needed rubbing alcohol will remove tough stains.

I like it. I don’t have a full ppf but had my front end only done in my Grand Cherokee with xpel. Will continue doing it in my future cars.

His opinion is all good. Restating his opinion numerous times is trolling. I read and respect everyone’s opinion, but only need one post to understand where he’s coming from. If I can help someone make an informed decision then it’s worth the time.

He was responding based on another comment you said. He added input and a follow up explanation as to why his opinion was what it was... not defending anyone here, just sayin. Be fair. You can’t post something here and expect people not to comment multiple times in regards to what you post.

At the end of the day it's a Tacoma not a 911. Toyota will sell thousands of Pros this year and the next and the year after. It's only going to take one major change in terms of the drivetrain etc and every 3rd gen Tacoma owner to this point could be known for having a a malaise era Tacoma. I rather have the $5k towards the note or in the bank, but i'm just a working stiff.
