What's the best Axe & Shovel setup

Thinking of going fiskars for an ax, but splitting or chopping?

chopping or splitting? thinking about going chopping axe with a hatchet nearby for splitting?

 

I bought the splitting fiskars because I tend to do more splitting of firewood than chopping of trees. If I anticipate having to clear through a trail I bring a chainsaw with me. My shovel is a $15-20 one from Lowes.

 

Went with Bully Tools Shovel and axe mounted with DYI mounts/quick fists.

 

If you are clearing a trail you want chopping.

 

I have a Fiskars. If I were buying again I would spring for the extra 10-15 $ and buy a Estwing. I have not had any issues with the Fiskars...but I do baby it and would not baby with something with a steel shank.

 

Would rather take a chainsaw. Which we normally do. And an axe.

I never liked my tools, especially 'spensive ones, open and in plain view.

I had a Mudbuddy rigged up in the rail inside the bed. I also have one in my hunting / fishing boat. If it wasn't carrying a gun- I slid my full size spade in there. My axe was put in the bed.

 

But normally I just throw the shit into the truck/boat/whatever and just go, lol.

 

What shell is this? Looks great.

 

Do you even expo if you don't have a shovel and axe mounted at all times?

It's horrible to leave a sharpened blade tool out in the elements in an open bed. It's also not a great idea to rely on an axe as a primary trail clearing tool, unless you want to look cool, be very tired, and not have gotten very far.

Much better to get a mid-sized silky saw and leave it behind the seat.

 

Which cable lock is that?
I haven't found one that is skinny enough to pass through the track like that.
