Not really a Ranger specific comment but the focus on small frontal offset crash testing is such total bullshit. Yes I get that it should be tested because glancing blow accidents happen but, unlike in the video, those accidents don’t happen against a wall. They are usually two vehicles clipping each other and often involve a rollover. The angles, mass, and rollover risk play so much into that particular type of accident. That being said it’s the first thing every dealer and writer wants to focus on. “Look at how awesome your car will be if it head on collides with only a foot of overlap into a building,” lol. I still think the IIHS needs to move onto similar and dissimilar headon vehicle testing. I get the costs are high but that might actually lead to some safety improvements. Rant over lol.

I totalled my 2013 Tacoma PreRunner TRD Sport, and paid $29k and got $23k from the insurance. They hold their value.

I've heard that some dealers are nearly hiding them to push F150 sales, figured it was bs so I decided
to go by 2 huge dealers here in Va. One dealers site lists 50+ Rangers in stock, the other had 102!
but not a single one in site when I drove around both sides of the lot.... seemed strange.

Of course! It's TacomaWorld!! Let's ignore the plethora of Tacoma issues...LOL

Although I have had 4 Tacomas, I changed it up this year and put my money where my mouth is a bought the Ranger. Not concerned about Looks. That is too subjective. I don't buy vehicles like clothing. It does not define me. So why buy a Ranger? Because the 3rd gen Tacoma is a dog. It's that simple. I refuse to give Toyota my money for a mediocre truck just because its a Toyota..

My brother and I shopped together for a couple of trucks. Went to Toyota first as that was his first choice despite my warnings

I said lets test drive the new Ranger before you make a choice. . So we went to Chevy and Ford and after a couple of test drives with the Ranger on the freeway and around town, we both bought the Ranger. Although to find my build I had to travel 200 miles.

No doubt about it. The drivetrain in the Ranger is light years ahead of Tacoma..

Nearly 1 million F150 sales /year more than proved to me a turbo charged engine is not a bad thing. No major engine issues have been reported. If it had major issues I don't think they would sell 900K+ a year. Before I made the decision I spent a lot of time perusing the F150 forums for issues as I was leary about the EcoBoost.. I found no major wide area issues.
The 2.3 turbo is used in a lot of vehicles with various tunes.

That said I am looking forward to the Tacoma redesign (with a much better drivetrain) or the redesigned Ranger, Either way I will be buying one of those trucks in 2023 or further.

I don't have any issues with turbos, but I might be biased since I have a turbo diesel.

They aren't new or scary, but I'm not surprised that people are afraid of them on here.

The only angle that looks weird is the back, but I think it's because I'm used to seeing mid size trucks with short tailgates to go with their shallow beds, which the ranger doesn't have and instead has something more functional.

I haven’t driven a new ranger but no doubt that it drives a hell of a lot better than a Tacoma. Tacobella is right, but unfortunately people just hate because he’s not a 3rd gen fan boy and has something negative to say about truck on an enthusiast forum. I agree 100% and the biggest thing I hate about my truck is the power train. Other than that it’s not a bad truck at all. I prefer the styling over any other midsized truck currently on the market. If the Tacoma came with the powertrain that the ranger had, it would be a far leap ahead of the others. Especially when the 2020’s hit IMO

I think you hit the nail on the head without meaning to. People are not as sick of Tacobella informing us about shit no one cares about people are sick of him coming to a Tacoma forum and just shitting on the Tacoma day after day like you said to ‘Tacoma fans’!! I don’t go on Ranger forums and talk about how they are losers for buying a Ranger not F150, or talk about how the Ranger has similar off-road capability’s to a Ridgeline dead last behind Tacoma and GM twins. No people are just tired about him acting like a Ex girlfriend who spends all her time saying how much she hates her Ex then driving past his house every night and stocking all his social media. I myself like that Ford brought out a Mid size to give the Tacoma encouragement to improve on things I honestly think work 100% fine. I bought a truck for camping and off-roading. If I wanted a car with big tires I also may have looked at a Ranger or more than likely a Ridgeline. So all in all it’s not people getting tired of him throwing in info it’s him coming back day after day to tell people who love there vehicles what a piece of shit they are because he wasn’t smart enough to do a proper test drive!

I honestly think you are the first person I’ve heard say that! The Tacoma is the most capable off-road midsize truck by far, and drives “rough” like a truck which seems to be what most of it’s complaints are is most people bitching are expecting it to drive like a car. Like I said thou people are just getting tired of hearing Tacobella come on here with 0 helpful input just to blast the Tacoma on a Tacoma site. Pretty trollish.

"Bella" and I have had a few runs around the mulberry bush (as far as forum banter goes), but I'm at the point where I welcome his presence.

There are a lot of shit posters here who bitch about the Tacoma and talk up other vehicles but sit on their fat asses and do nothing about. Bella at least put his money where his mouth is and walked the walk.

Additionally, he's been very open about the fact that he is not married to the Ranger, that for him it was the best option at the time...and that he would go back to Toyota if it becomes the best option next time.

So if he's a troll, he's at least a troll with conviction.

Maybe he's referring to the perception that it's a poser truck? Lot of people buy it, throw shiny armor on it, put fancy rims and tires on it, throw a shit ton of lights on it, and then drive it (hat tip to Itchyfeet) to the local Applebee's or Chili's and never wheel it.

    Exactly.

I don't give the shit posters any attention and in fact, have ignored a few. I hope they did the same.

I have had four Tacomas since the 90's and two Rangers (not including my current truck) I was not impressed with the 2016 that I bought new. The 2nd gen, in my opinion, has a better drivetrain.

That said. I don't let the haters bother me. Looks are subjective. Ignorant Opinions and "Ford sucks" statements without merit mean nothing to me. I did the research and decided on the best solution for me at this time.the Ranger I4 Turbo engine won't work as hard as the V6 in the Tacoma because it has more torque but delivers it at a far lower rpm. V6 has far more moving parts as well.

I am for substance over habit. In three years or so I will decide between the new Ranger and new Tacoma. I am not married to any brand and intend to stay that way. I will remain here as long as the mods can stand me LOL and will only post when Ranger is the subject as I am the only one here who can speak for the Ranger first hand.

So why stick around? Because I still respect the Tacoma brand. I have not given up on Toyota and intend on looking at Tacoma again when it's redesigned. Not because I don't care for the Ranger. The Ranger is one hell of a truck compared to my Gen 3. ....I will again buy the best truck for the money.
