I don't know much about camper shells, but found one locally for $250. Seller doesn't speak very good english, so i'll post pics below. Does the shell look like it fits properly on the back of this tacoma? Anything I should look for when I inspect?

250is a steal. In Canada a decked out shell costs upwards of 3k. Check and make sure there is no cracking around the corners, carpeting and insulation is always nice if you are going to be using it to sleep in. Check the window seals and see if everything still operates nice and easy. Other than that it's more personal preference for options.

Thanks. I just want one for dry storage when i store all my baseball gear, so leakage would be a big deal for me.

Is it just me or does it look a little wide, overhanging the side rails a bit?

You will most likely have to get some additional bubble style weather stripping. Most likely it's pretty smashed on the bottom. Also due to the front rail lower you may have to build it up with more seals or add silicone in places. Depends on how permanent you want the install. Pretty common with the shells. Can't think of the name but a company makes a tailgate seal, haven't bought that yet and don't remember any reviews here about them. So it may take a little but of work to get it water tight.

For sure, I have a Leer and mine leaks a little somewhere when I wash the truck or in really heavy rain. If he'll let you take a hose to it definitely do that. I haven't been too concerned with finding out where mine leaks so I'm of no help there. My assumption is the windows though.

DO IT. That's a steal. If it leaks a little, figure that out after the fact. I would not recommend planning to take the topper off and put it back on a lot. Put it on, leave it there permanently. You'll be glad you have it.

Good deal even if you have to get it painted.

The CAPS don't leak. The front bed rails on Tacomas are a weird design that makes it all but impossible to get a 100% seal. I've had the same cap on my truck since 2007. I get a few drops of water from the front corner in a hard rain. Been that way since new. But with the way the bed is designed with ridges and valleys in the floor the small amount of water stays in the valleys and drains out. Anything in the bed sits on the high spots and stays dry.
