I see your using the factory seatbelt to hold the carseat in place, wondering why you don't use the belt that comes with the carseat and the anchor points on the seat? I don't trust using the factory seatbelt on ours. The anchor points and a knee in the bottom of the seat get it tight for me.

I just recently went through the same thing, my first is due in September. Long story short I ended up selling the Taco this past weekend and buying a supercrew f150. No regrets yet, but i probably will when 2 weeks after the warranty is up the turbos explode hahaha.

...and yes i still peruse TacomaWorld. It's hard letting go :(

the belt that comes with the seat is an anchor belt and is being used. It extends from the top back of the car seat over the actual bench seat of the truck and is clipped onto the anchor point 'bracket'.

    upload_2019-7-16_8-30-24.jpg

If you mean why am I not using the 'lower anchor point belts', 1. Not for use if child is more than 30lbs (if rear facing)/not more than 33lbs (if forward facing), AND only available on 03+ models. I have an 02 and the rear bench does not have the lower anchor points.

Doesn't matter. His seat isn't going anywhere. Secured - big time.

This is the first gen section, so does it not make sense there will be more fans of first gens?

If you don't trust the factory seatbelt, you have trust issues, lol...

The latch system isn't any more (or less) safe than the seatbelt as long as it is secured properly. It's just more convenient.

Why do you not trust the same seatbelts you use, and the same seatbelts they'll use when they get older?

I do trust them. I just don't like any wiggle on the carseat.

Just an idea. Second gen has a little more room and offers a long bed for the double cab. I would not get a short bed

Pretty rare. Only up to 1999 or 2000 I think. I knew a guy in highschool with one. Had like 230k mikes on it or something like that. Covered in trashy mods, yet all the guys thought it was 'cool'.

Pretty sure I had that exact car seat.

My son is 10 and sits on his own now. My daughter is 7, and tiny, and still has a booster (will probably until she's 17, lol). We used to use the Latch system for even just the booster seats, but recently, I've noticed I don't bother with the Latch. With just a booster, there is hardly any wiggle room anyway. I've gone many thousands of miles with the booster not latched (only using seatbelt) and her seat never moves.

When we only had my son, and we put him in the center-back. We had one of those removable base infant carrier things. The center seat doesn't have the latch system, but the seatbelt is the standard lap belt so you could wrench that thing down pretty tight. The sides had the latch system. Our old 99 Civic didn't have latch, at all, but we had gotten rid of it before we had my daughter and had to move my son to one side. Newer car ('07 Accord and the 04 doublecab) both have latch.

Had a beautiful 85 pick up then had a kid. Kept it and dealt with it. Then had a 2nd and had to sell it for the dbl cab i have now. Then i had 3 & 4, kept the dbl cab but added a 05 Sequoia. Now i can seat 8 and use my truck as the gear hauler when we go on our camping trips

Im running a double cab 2007 Tacoma now but have been thinking about an 80 series for a while. Now my neighbour has an 80 in good shape for sale and fairly low km. Its a 97! My problem is how can I go to a truck that gets 12-13 MPG and the next gas station is 300 miles away and when my jammy Taco gets 20? Loosing sleep over this. The LC is pretty rare around here.

If you have the means to buy it, do it. You’ll always be torn until you try it. Chances are you’ll know pretty quickly if it’s for you or not.

LC’s i’m pretty sure have a larger tank than tacos, so even if you’d be averaging 14mpgs, you probably would have 25ish gallons compared to 17-18. Not to mention there are several long range tanks available for LCs as well
