I've got Cooper Discoverer AT3 P-metric tires which are not aggressive, but even they have noticeable highway road noise over the stock Rugged Terrains or whatever they were. My next set will probably be the Michelin Defenders.

The problem you're going to run into is that knobby tread are not aerodynamic and will create noise.

I’m running KO2’s and can say those the General AT2’s and Duratracs all get louder as they wear down from my experience with them.
My truck is my DD and I will not run another E rated tire on it again. They are heavy, stiff and overkill for all but the rock crawlers out west that need the sidewall on a Tacoma.

80% of Tacoma owners can easily get by with a C load or less.

Another vote for the Falken Wild Peak AT3Ws. My first set got loud towards the end but they also had 100k plus miles on them of daily highway driving! I replaced them last week with the same thing...mpg didn't change either. I got the passenger (SL) version instead of the light truck (E) as I don't tow or haul heavy stuff frequently....

There are many excellent suggestions along with some outstanding photos. Just remember all tires are a product of compromise. There is no one tire that scores a 5 out of 5 in all category. It is best to define what qualities are most important to you when selecting your next tire. If we can be of assistance please let us know. As always Discount Tire guarantees the lowest price on all the tires they carry.

    This.

For a 98% pavement, occasional gravel roads with only light snow, the perfect choice.

    Function before looks.

My wild peaks have 10000 miles in 6 months of almost all highway miles. Great tire. Maybe the best at truck tire in rain i have had in 28 years of owning trucks. I have them on my Bronco too.

I went with "function before looks". It's a complete flip flop from my original intentions, but I went for a long drive in my KIA Spectra yesterday morning and remembered how much I hate road noise (they're a very cheaply built car that isn't soundproofed well). I'm also somewhat of a mileage snob and the thought of loosing mileage was eating at me. So, I swung by my tire guy's shop and told him my new train of thought and he suggested Courser's (he's also been to my house and know's that even though most of my driving will be highway... that I also have a steep ass gravel drive that isn't always easy to get up). I'm selling my KIA and the Taco is going to be my driver. If I ever go back to having a beater car AND a truck I think I'll go ahead with the K02's.

Yes, sort of. I got the STR (I didn't see it on the link you posted). Here's a link to them:
    CooperMastercraft - Courser STR

It's at the shop right now, will know if I like them before the end of the day. They sure aren't the mud tire look that I was originally after but in the end I think comfort and mileage will be the better choice. Plus, these are $120/tire mounted instead of the $238/tire mounted he wanted for the K02's. That's $472 that I can keep in my pocket for a while.

Looks fine to me. Basically very similar to a Firestone Destination type tire.

Got a set of Discoverers for winter on the factory 16" steelies. Duelers on the 4rnr 17" take-offs for summer. Best of both worlds. & Either would work just fine year round if needed in my case.
