We had a rental in Colorado, my buddy powerbraked it for so long in a parking garage, the fire department was called. Ahhh, the good ole days

When people rent an off-road vehicle it’s because they don’t want to totally trash their vehicle. To add to that usually they don’t have experience driving off-road if they don’t own an off-road vehicle already.

There are exceptions of course but that’s the risk

Yeah, smoked the tires and got a little sideways just trying to move up in the queue. My VERY conservative boss riding shotgun wasn't as amused as I was.

I bought a used 2012 JGC in December of that year with 30K miles on the odometer, and it had come from a rental fleet. I told them "no sale" unless they secured all the maintenance records, checked the CarFax, made sure the progression of the mileage made sense, had a garage inspect it, etc.
Traded it in for my current Tacoma in January 2018 with 99K+miles after driving it to NY several times, Colorado twice, Minnesota once, and except for some official Jeep recalls never had any problems. It can be done with due dilligence.

The larger rental companies do their own collision repairs in house and those repairs don't show up on Carfax.

Bought a 09 Yaris in 10 with 32K, now have 265K. It was a rental. I would look that truck over very close.

Like others said, definately would not recommend. Everytime i drive rental or loaner, i pretty much floor it the whole time. Basically i push the limits of the vehicle

That poor corolla with the cvt that i got as a loaner recently... wonder if it still drives:oops:

If the price was dropped another 8-10k it might be worth it, but that price is too damn high for a rental with 30k miles. I got my truck for 29k with 25k miles but it was a single owner before I got it.

The only thing I beat on more than rentals are test drive vehicles. I’d never buy either as a result.

Whatever chemical plant, steel mill, quarry, or oil field I happened to be visiting, I wouldn't even bother taking off my boots, I'd just grind that nasty funk into the floor mats of whatever rental I had at the time. (That is unless my boots were covered in three inches of gumbo-mud. Then I'd at least kick the running boards until most of it fell off.)

And whatever off-beat hole in the wall restaurants I decided to visit during said business trips, usually led to some rank farts being power-injected into the driver's seat.

If you ever buy a rental that I have rented, have mercy on your soul.

The price is what you could find a similar OR for in my area. It should be even less, because it was a rental. It will have a diminished value when you trade or sell as well.

Wouldn’t touch one with a ten foot pole. Seriously. I have been driving different brands of rental trucks as a company car for the last 4 years. I drive the snot out of them. Start them cold in the morning and immediately accelerate with the pedal to the metal, grind my dirty shoes into the carpet, over rev the motors down shifting, etc.

With the $5-6k discounts being offered on brand new 2019 TRD’s, new is the only way to go.
