    I would have to say it’s better on the highway also. Why would a wider tire be better on pavement? The only pro to the 255 over the 235s I usually get is that it’s softer over bumpy roads and pot holes. It’s also better in snow 90% of the time. People think they can “stay on top” with a fat tire. But the reality is that 90% of the time, you are going to sink. I’ve been stuck a billion times to know that. Skinny’s carve through snow better, which of course is only good until it’s deep enough to reach the frame. I put my 255’s on for the first time last winter, and in September I’m buying 235s again. The loss in traction and handling in uncertain terrain was incredible. (Although the softer ride has been nice because the Rockies are rough!)

    After debating tire size for a long time I'm really glad I went with 255s. They're mounted on 17x8" 0 offset wheels and the stance looks great, they don't look real skinny at all, and I got the ground clearance I wanted without any cutting.IMG_20190702_172220.jpg

    I am getting an average of 17-19 mpg with 285’s at sea level with summer gas (pretty much 50/50 mix of highway and town driving). I was getting around 14-15 in CO. That puts me back up to near what I used to get with stock tires!

    KDMax tune, eibach stage 2, ceramic tint, DD SS3 PRO fogs. Toyo AT3 285s
    Chalk test to determine the best PSI for your individual setup. It's easy and doesn't take long to do.

    My 265/75/16s wear the best running at 34psi. But on long trips I'll fill to 37psi for better fuel consumption and when offroading all day I'll drop to 30 for a smoother ride over bumps and potholes.

    I'm on 255s but I'd vote 285 after that. Because a lot of what I see is thick mud and deep snow for days and days at a time (city sucks at clearing the roads). I'm considering a 285/75r16 MT next time I buy tires to give myself a little more float, or 285/75r17s for 34s with some shiny new wheels. If you've already trimmed plastic what's the harm in a little metal?
