    Hey guys,

To those who own the 2012 model with auto tran, has it worked fine for you? I just read a post back in 2012-2013 and a few of them were having a shifting problem with the trans.

Also, does this specific model have any problems that I should be worried about?

And, when I come to check out a vehicle at the dealership, can I always request for a CarFax report? I am sorry but I have not shopped for a used vehicle since 2008.

    Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Any decent dealership will offer a carfax for free.

Zero issues. I use it to commute, camp in the canopy, tow our small travel trailer, 4 wheel, hunting, road trips, hauling junk.

Awesome vehicle. I do maintenance religiously though.

There's no shifting issues 2012 models, infact the 12 to 15 are preferred as they have less frame rust, and updated interior/exterior.

Biggest issue is the air pump and injection valves. But there would be a check engine light.

I heard there were some driveshaft vibrations and the secondary air valve had some problems. Is it true?

2012's will have the biggest issues with the SAI valve as the ECU was not programmed to do a shutdown purge. In 2013 they changed that.... TBH id steer clear of 2012's. 09-11 or 13+ for me.... do note that in 2014 they removed features like auto dimming mirror with outside temp and compass.

SAI on the 2012 is covered for 10 years, unlimited mileage. My 2012 hasn't had any unusual transmission issues and the SAI on my truck purges for a few seconds if I shut it down before the vehicle has warmed up.

I have 80k miles on the truck and the only issue has been a failed JBL headunit.

2012 is covered by a warranty enhancement for SAIS. Which kinda makes it the best year for SAIS.

Cool deal, so you get replacement parts that are currently on backorder.... and get stranded when it does happen and limited to 25mph. The Warranty does not reflash the ECU to do the shutdown purge, so you will still have the same problem down the road.

I have 138k on my 12 no issues (knock on wood), the only thing that has broken has been the driver side sun visor(never fixed) and the blower motor($25 part) . I've done regular maintenance every 5k miles.

You know this is happening to 2013-2015 model years too, right? The foam filter can degrade on them too, killing the pump.

Also, any idea how long the system runs to purge after shutdown on the 2013+?

Correct, and its why i have removed the foam filter and opted for the UNI 1in breather... i did that MANY MANY years ago.

Purge shutdown is ~ 3-5 secs.

I'm pretty sure my 2012 purges when not warmed up as I can hear the pump run for several seconds when I shut it down.

I took my filter out at 105,000 miles and it was like new. I replaced it w/ the uni filter anyway but there was def. no cause for concern.

I'm at 80k on my 2012. I was going to bypass but with the 10yr warranty coverage I'm going to wait and see what happens.

    Too few to list.
Don't be afraid to buy a 2012 anymore since it's now covered under the Toyota Warranty Enhancement as stated above and can now also be bypassed with HP Tuner. I'd opt of the latter since you can do a lot with HP Tuner.
