Does anyone live on the beach with a steel bed rack? How quickly will it rust with a powder coat?

Depends on how often it gets wet. About 50 moisture cycles.

    None as of yet
depends on the quality of the powder coat. Ive powder coated parts submerged in salt water without issue.

Marine products engineer with 25 years experience building and testing boats and products products for the marine market. Not bragging just saying this is an experienced professional opinion.

Not this. 50 cycles would be one summer at the beach. Fire that powder coat shop. Plenty of painted and prefer coated steel hanging around the beach.

Yes and yes to this. Five corrosion zones. Mudline. Submerged. Partially submerged. Spray zone. And non submerged / rain zone. Rain zone is obviously the least likely to corrode. Believe it or not submerged is second least likely. So the above statement is true.

Quality of the powder coat is most important. Corrosion of a powder coated surface is actually called exfoliation. When water gets between the surface and the base metal it will actually tunnel leaving veins like on a leaf. This is the problem with powder coat and why we stopped using it 10 years ago. One chip or a break in the coating around a fastener from a drill bit and say goodbye. And there is no good way to touch up powder coat once the problem starts. We paint or bed liner everything now. The coating may not be as hard initially but thefact it can be inspected and touched up at the first sign of a beach makes it serviceable for a lifetime.

If you do go with powder coat have it done locally by someone experienced in marine grade applications. Don't have it done by a shop in Arizona or the like. It simply is not the same despite any claims to the contrary.
