Transmission Flush

So i've been doing reading on transmission flush. Im currently at 136k and never did my fluid change since i got told i shouldn't do it because its a "closed" system or it will damage the trans. I called the dealership and they charge $203. My question is should i do it, or do i have too many miles on it? Anyone had bad experience? If i go ahead and do it, do i change it again in another 100k or some people do it every 60k.

transmission fluid doesn't last for ever......

what have you done about other fluids ?

PS.....brake fluids.........coolant ??

 

I've changed every other fluid in my truck including both diffs, brake,coolant, power steering. just not the transmission fluid since i got told not too and read that peoples transmissions failed about a week after doing the change.

 

Personally at that mileage and never been changed I would not do a flush. I'd do a drain and fill with a filter change.

 

Are they actually going to do a full flush or just a drain and fill? I'm guessing it's just a drain & fill at that price. The dealers tend to interchange the terms.

$200 for drain and fill is a little high imo. It's $40 worth of fluid.

 

i got told ill be the flush and ill include the filter as well and a 12 month warranty or 12k miles.

 

You can do a DIY drain and fill for about $18 in fluid (MaxLife) plus a few crush washers.

 

It's always best to drop the pan and clean it as well as change the filter. I doubt that price is for a flush as it's roughly 12 quarts I believe and dealers sell the fluid for like $10 a quart.

I'm a Toyota tech and we never change filters. This is typical of all asian transmissions. They are metal screens and the fluid does all the work.

I would sooner do a fluid change (4 liters) then another one in a month, than drop the pan. You'd maybe get a half liter more from dropping the pan, and the filter is just an added expense, along with the mess of the pan removal.

The bulk of toyotas fluid is in the lines and converter. Only way to flush those is an inline flush. Or like I suggested simply changing the fluid more frequently 4 liters at a time.

is it not important to clean off the magnet(s)?

 

I've seen one 1GR trans fail in 15 years.

It's fine if you want to go the extra mile, but I don't feel its required.

Asian and its Aisin as well haha.
