Supercharger is much easier, bolt on power basically...but be sure you plan on doing some fuel mods with it because these trucks love to run lean when boosted. Most people need to do something to accommodate the supercharger whether its the URD 7th injector, methanol injection, bigger fuel injectors, etc. Since you don't have to worry about smog your options there are wide open.

you lucky bastard :p Appreciate your service :oldglory:

That's weird, I had two CARB Magnaflow cats installed right before my last smog check and passed with flying colors.

That sounds fishy, I would've just gone to another shop with those cats still installed. Sounds like they were just being difficult. The only reason you are allowed to able to buy aftermarket cats in CA is because they are CARB certified, that shop doesn't know wtf they are doing.

Uhhm, we’re talking about trucks with catalytic converters, not motorcycles.

The shop had a douche working there as almost every smog station.. I saw the screen, the Magnaflow flunked seriously bad, really pissed me off. It was from Summit!! They returned it after having it a year and a half, I got back from every cent I paid. The Magnaflow won’t catch enough nox from escaping, also you can look through it like a screen door. The catalyst is around the ID of it and being a one cat Federal edition it can’t even get close to passing smog, I was even running a o2 sim because it would throw a code p420. Took a stock cat and the numbers were within new star smog standards. I take it off every time smog is done and go back to my secret cat w/o2 sim, Waay more powerful. Plus no need to ever buy a stock cat again just change it for smog, Fuck Cali, and their tree hugging politicians.

huh, well that doesn't give me much hope knowing I need to get a smog test in a couple months lol. Maybe mine passed last time because they were brand new? Now they're a couple years old and I have a test coming up....now you have me worried lol.

Sounds like you have two cats, you should be ok I have one per fed emissions. Mine makes it scary every time, shit ones coming in two months for me,(nail biter!). I get too many questions about my engine if I don’t go to my smog guys.

I also have the URD 7th injector on my truck for the supercharger, and it's 100% illegal in CA lol. But I did pass with it last time...they didn't catch it. Hope I can sneak by again.

It's stupid because the 7th injector makes it run much better (runs lean without which kills the cats and is bad for emissions), but because it isn't "CARB" it's not legal for me to have it. Ridiculous.

Wow, I personally would take that off every smog, running lean lowers smog numbers/burns the cats hotter and should even help ya pass.. I like that you found somebody who overlooks it but don’t trust that person will always be there. One tech had a laugh when I showed him my Subaru crank pulley wasn’t stock, he didn’t notice because it was black anodized, he’s one of my old KTM customers so he was cool about it, I desmogged his KTM back when he bought it. Smog technicians can help you or seriously shit on you.:poking:

I don't think he overlooked it on purpose, he just didn't see it. It would only fail on the visual inspection and it's basically just a braided steel fuel line that plugs into the back of the supercharger. I wrapped the steel line in black electric tape so it didn't stand out so much, just looked more like any of the other black vacuum lines in there.

That’s slick, idk if any techs would catch that but they look for anodized a&n fittings so when I get one I’m ordering a black fitting, and will put crinkle duct with 3m tape over it like you. Smart:thumbsup:

There was mention how someone was jelly about a smog ref. getting his motorcycle open tuned.... which is why i mentioned it.

Also, there is a way to ride the GRAY in California - unfortunately, you'll need to do your homework. Been there done that - how do you think you see ( rarely ) 90s - heck even 00' vehicles with aftermarket turbos and engine swaps .... and still pass smog? IMHO, not too hard.

CA smog requirements can be frustrating for sure. If you wanted to skirt the requirements (and I would never promote that), there are things that people do. I also know people that switch engines every two years for their inspections. But, this is on older'ish cars as you are not required to have a smog test in CA for (I think) the first 8 years for a new car. Also, not all counties in the state require bi-annual smog checks. Where my cabin is located, they only require a smog check on change of ownership. So, some people register their vehicles in those counties thereby never needing to perform a smog check - ever. When they go do sell the car they sell it out of state.

Cali loosened the rules on engine swaps a few years ago, a bunch of car enthusiasts got together and lobbied the state to make it easier to get engine swaps done legally, arguing that it would help by keeping older cars on the road, but with newer, less polluting powerplants. So its like recycling. Before, there were multiple rules restricting legit swaps, same manufacturer, nothing from another country, etc. Back in the 90's/early 2000s, highway patrol would set up mobile trailers with smog equipment along side highways, and pull people in modified cars over, and give them a smog check right there, as well as having the CHP referees there to do a thorough visual inspection. They loved showing up at the Stadium Way races, trailers in tow. Bastards.
