Reinforced Frame Results

I’m almost convinced to reinforce the frame on my double cab 04. I have a heavy tool box and haul my drz400s (300 lbs) on the Hitch using a carrier. I take my taco off road nearly every weekend as well and am afraid such a non box reinforcement will stiffen the frame for driving in 4X4 in rough country.

Has anyone here noticed a difference in how their truck handled off road after reinforcing the frame with a plate similar to this? Thanks for all input.

These aren't chevy trucks, our frames aren't supposed to flex with suspension articulation, lol.

Do it.

 

I feel much more confident with reinforcement plates when I'm hauling around all the weight in my truck.

I wrote up my install here. You might consider the CBI plates, as they are significantly cheaper than you linked with LROR.

I noticed a little difference in the ride. It was an improvement.

 

I have been debating doing it for a while. Had been told about the frame flexing by persons more mechanically inclined than myself; though I suspected the same, it’s the suspension that does the flexing. Was looking for some more input before I went with my own instincts and got it.

If you have a tow hitch can these still be installed?

 

Yes, no problem at all. The frame reinforcement is primarily for the curve in the frame; doesn't go back far enough to interfere with a hitch.

can`t hurt to put gussets inside before welding it closed

I guess if you haul lots of weight off road it could help.

I never had issues hauling all the time the roughest place is my driveway thanks to the idiot neighbor and all the heavy rain the past few months

 

In between the frame and the new metal support section thats welded on?

That was the Hot set up in the seventies Box the frames to make them stronger .

Kinda keep up with the pro racers thing
