hate to bump an old thread, but i'm in the process of doing the same fix on my 1st gen but its gonna be a little over engineered as well. I have two hi beam bulbs out of a chrysler town and country ( just the high beam assembly, is a seperate part in side the headlight unit, I took it out) and was actiually thinking of cutting 2 holes in my bumper to fab them in so they look mostly stock they're only about 1 1/4 inches in diameter and bright as hell. so my question here is actually in the wiring of these little guys Can i just tie into the existing reverse light wiring to power them (its still just two wires hot and ground) i know i tried this on my old nissan and well.....the wires couldnt handle it and started on fire i just wanna know if anyone has tried it using stock taco wiring?

I haven't had wires catch fire before, but they've gotten very hot! Hot enough for me to be worried and rewire them.

After that I wire all aux lights with relays! Relay and lights are grounded, low power trigger wire from a switch to the relay, then heavy gauge wire from battery to relay to lights. For the reverse lights, look at the cheap/free thread in my sig for my aux reverse lights. I tied the relay into the stock reverse lights so it turns on when they do. I was able to tuck it up behind the driver side tail light to keep it out of the way, and ground it to a bold up there too. Lights were grounded to a self tapping screw used to hold them to the bumper. I then ran a larger, fused, wire from the battery, under the truck, and up to the relay behind the tail light. I zip tied that wire up under the truck as close to the body as possible to protect it.
