Hey guys I have a question for all you audio gurus. I'm completely lost when it comes to the new tech. I'm looking to get rid of entune because it does nothing but piss me off. I have a non JBL head unit of that plays into it at all. My question is, is there a nice decent priced aftermarket head unit that works well with the 3rd gen Tacomas? I really want car play, would like it to be wireless but not a must. I do like how the entune has the split screen. And I'm curious if I do change the head unit will I lose any functions for my truck? I've heard of mastro and idata but I have no idea what they are or what they do. Thanks in advance for the help guys.

Pioneer w4500/w4400 is a great unit for the money if you want wireless CarPlay

You’ll need the Maestro RR and TO2 harness to keep all factory functionality

You’ll need the sxv300 to keep XM radio if you want it.
As well as various adapters to retain factory antenna, factory usb, and factory gps antenna

Thank you. Would you by chance have any links or point me in the right direction to get the needed adapters? I don't think I'm going to be using XM radio.

Crutchfield.com should become your best friend. I’ve spent a ton of money on that website. :spending:

Haha. That's where I've been looking and it doesn't seem like it'd be hard to go broke on that website lol

So I've been doing non stop research and I really like the Pioneer 4500. Does anyone have that installed that could maybe give me some pros and cons?

I’ve got the 8400 in my truck and the 4500 as my shop radio. Awesome unit. Wireless CarPlay works great. Dual cam input. HDMI input. Lots of options for EQ and time alignment. I’m very happy with it

My bad when I looked it up it took me to the 8500 lol. But I'd there a big difference between the 4500 and the 8400?

    Yeah big difference.
The 8400/8500 has NAV, faster processor, and a capacitive touch screen (much nicer than resistive touch like most radios)

The 4400/4500 are still awesome radios and I would’ve gotten that had I not gotten the steal I did on my 8400 (I’m an installer and dealer so sometimes I get lucky)

From what I'm seeing I can get the 8400 for the same price as the 4500. Just not from crutchfield.

Well I work at bestbuy so I'm not offended if you buy it elsewhere lol. If you can snag the 8400 for a good price, it's an awesome radio!

I've installed several cheap android radios and never been happy with them, either on day 1, or a few months to a year in when they die or start having issues. That one may be a great unit but I've been burned way too many times to trust them

I like it a lot so far. Really happy with wireless car play. Might be silly but I wanted it since the car has wireless charging so I kinda wanted to stay completely wireless. I forgot how much I missed CarPlay. Also sound is better with a true equalizer so that was a big plus. Now I’m thinking about doing my door speakers to match the kicker subie tweeters I put in. I would read the thread 5nahalf has been doing a lot of work on it. But you can also just do a android overlay if that’s your style.

Haha I think that's where I'm going to go to check them out. I'd really like to work one before I buy it.
