Fill up at 1/2 tank; you'll spend less money. Better yet, fill at 3/4 tank and spend even less!

I usually fill up at half tank. Not much more reason than I never get inconvenienced by getting low and having to stop at busy times. I think I've only ever seen my light some one 4/5 times over 3 years. 3 of which when I run a bottle of gumout every 10k.

Everywhere I read is 6lbs-6.3lbs. An imperial gallon of water weighs 10lbs and and imperial gallon of gasoline is 7.2lbs. A standard US gallon is .83 imperial gallons (8.3lbs). 7.2lbsx.83=5.97lbs.

I've always used 6 lbs for flight planning. But if you have an hour or two you can read more about it here...

Fill up when you want to fill up. The tiny weight difference won't effect fuel mileage. It does on big jet liners, a 747 holds over 48,000 gallons (about 1/3 of a million pounds) so they do tend to only put in just enough fuel to get to their destination.

I don't advise making a habit of driving till the low fuel light comes on though. Too many bad things can happen. I've had to sit in traffic because of a bad wreck ahead for 4-5 hours in 100 degree heat. Had to backtrack once because a road construction accident broke a gas line and the road was closed. I was 7 miles from home. Ended up having to drive 70 to get home. I've seen storms knock out power and no gas was available for 4-5 days within a 50 mile radius.

Around town about 1/2 tank is as low as I normally get. On a long road trip try to buy gas at the same time I'm stopping to eat or take a bathroom break. Depending on the location I might let it get pretty low if fuel stops are pretty regular. But I've been in several places where there was no gas for 100+ miles.

1/2 tank add 1 spoon of sugar.
1/4 tank add 1 spoon of sugar and 1 spoon of salt.
THAT! is the difference between gas levels in the tank.

Did you add the water like you are supposed to? Helps keep the fuel pumps cool in this hot weather.

Lies... don’t make anyone ruin there engine ass. If anyone does this, just add bleach to clean out the sugar. It will dissolve it without having to drain the tank.
    :anonymous:

Yeah don’t do that. Bleach is worse then sugar!

Unless I'm mistaken, the volume of gas a vehicle at any point during a break-in period* is irrelevant (with the exception of maybe running it completely dry).

*I think there's minimal recommendations in the manual about breaking in the engine... something like don't tow anything for a few hundred miles, don't do weird shit for the first 1000. After that... send it.

Aside: I think a tacoma weighs about 4000 pounds dry. the difference between a full and 1/4 tank is about 100 pounds... is the little difference of 100 pounds in 4000lb vehicle going to translate to a significant or noticible decrease in mpg? I'd guess not.
