Looks like you lost almost 7mph at the point of contact...

Not what I was expecting to hear. I think I would have been a bit more vulgar at that moment.

I was originally going to go with a standard aftermarket bumper. But after reading these post and seeing my own friends and family hit multiple deer and the damage they cause; I think I'll be going with a full front protection bumper like the one from ARB or something similar. Don't really care for the looks of the full coverage bumpers but "form follows function".

    Yeah.
A friend of mine was sitting in traffic and a deer jumped/fell off an overpass onto his hood. Zero mph deer strike.

I'd be willing to bet an obscene amount of money that you weren't doing 63 at the moment of impact. Given the scale of the video, size of the deer relative to your truck, and the speed the road was passing at, I'd be very surprised if you were even doing 30 at the moment of 'ba-bump'
Very lucky that it was a small deer, and that you saw it soon enough to brake. Gotta keep your head on a swivel driving in the country

Dash cam says he was going 64mph. But it could have been off calibration. It's on the bottom of the video.

After watching it again, I agree that it looks like he was going slower and the camera just didn't catch up to rapid deceleration.

Either way, lucky it was a young/small deer and was folded up under the truck instead of going over the top.

I hit a deer going 45 and did $7000 damage about a half mile from my house. The deer got up and walked away. My truck barely was able to make it back home. You were very lucky.

My statement stands. After he hits it and is just drifting along the shoulder it still says he's doing 80kmh (50mph). The speed readout on his dashcam doesn't update as quickly as his speed changes.

So lucky no matter what speed you were going.

In the past couple of years, people in my hood have hit black bears. That would be a little nerve racking to check if that animal was dead.

The speed is shown in Kph on the bottom of the screen of the video. He was doing 102 at impact, 96 right after. That is pretty close to 60 mph.

That was a small deer that basically went under your truck. Very lucky for you. I've hit one. I saw it in the median and started slowing. By the time I hit her was probably under 20 mph. Got under her and she went over the roof. Only left a small dent in the hood. I thought she was dead. She layed in the ditch for 4-5 minutes and never moved while I called insurance company for advice. When we got in the car to leave she got up and hobbled into the woods on 3 legs. I'm sure she died shortly.

I just missed 3 more who crossed directly behind me on I-75 a little south of Knoxville. 2 of them made it, but the last one hit a pickup and went airborne. It landed on the hood of a car in the other lane and went THROUGH the windshield. Saw it all in the rear view mirror. I was in the left lane and by the time I got over to the right lane and in a position to stop I was a good 1/4 mile ahead. The driver of the car managed to get to the side of the road and stopped. Multiple other cars stopped so i just kept going.

It was a very young deer. That's why the damage was minimal

I read that on the dash cam as well. Just didn't look like the truck was moving that fast at the time of impact. Could be my eyes playing tricks on me though.

Just a small fyi. Im not sure about your state but in NC and VA it is illegal to put a deer out of its misery they will cite you for dispatching a firearm from a road way and a possibility of killing a deer out of season. I completely disagree with those laws but they dont care about the humane thing

Two of the "fingers" are crushed. I am going to order the front bumper piece and new crush pads.

I rather suspect the deer would view it differently.

The closer I watch it, it does look and sound like it was decelerating prior to impact.

    Title changed.
