    why does the drivetrain feel loose/clunky?

    Almost like the mount(s) are worn out, or poorly designed in the first place.
    Is there a documented fix?
    I'm not sure if basic mount replacement would do the truck, or if more thorough stuff is needed such as upgraded aftermarket parts with a better design

    (6-speed manual)

    I know in manual Audi's, people say just replace worn transmission and motor mounts, or upgrade to aftermarket.
    and in Mercedes, it's usually the same thing (first half), ie replacement. Including with the transmission mount, that is easily checked on the back by flexing it with a prybar, inspecting it's position, feeling if it's stiff and dry (old), etc.
    because they bang up on the metal when shifting

    Not sure about Tacomas but am assuming others have experienced this as well

    I wasn’t experiencing issues but I did replace my engine mounts with solid ones. I’m quite happy with them. Contact @Bonzen and he will make some for you.

    back with another dumb question

    Anyone ever strip the Philips head gas cap screw to install a Meso Customs Gasshole?
    I ignored the advice about "use a #3 bit with an impact driver" and this happened

    used my favorite philips screwdriver because it's stubby, has a big handle to get good turning leverage, and a short bit angle to grip better, but it still stripped

    The screw is in there so tight
    not even sure if a pair of big grips/pliers could turn it out, or if there's enough room to get a good grip/leverage on it

    I've seen posts of using screw extractors. I don't have a drill but maybe this is a good reason to buy one. Am looking at a Harbor Freight one to keep it cheap for now.
    Stuff like Ridgid, DeWalt, etc. at Home Depot looks nice but they're up to $200/ea. (haven't looked at other brands like Milwaukee, Ryobi, etc.)

    I know sometimes screw extractors can be hammered in and then turned with a T-handle that you typically use to hold tap/die bits, but I haven't tried it yet

    Thought of going to the dealer for a replacement screw but it might be cheaper at Home Depot; hopefully the hardware guy can find a match

    Was probably a JIS screw not a Phillips head (Japanese Industrial Standard) they're used a lot on the 1st gens anyway...looks like a Phillips but slightly different and easy to strip with a Phillips screwdriver.

    Honestly I just heard about it myself when I looked up why it was so easy to strip some of the screws on my interior. I wonder if there's a JIS screwdrivers at the local store or maybe head adapters for screwdrivers

    I alway bump those things off when im handwashing, its annoying.. now i have a few extras in my toolbox. They're really cheap at the dealer

    Curious as well.. jk

    Actually, i could see there being small differences in phillips head screws.. but as long as you use the correct size bit you should be fine

    Get a die grinder with a cutoff wheel on it and make a slot in the screw and use a flat blade screwdriver to remove the screw.

    Good idea. Maybe a rotary would work too, with a circular cutting bit. Might be time to buy another then. I didn't bring mine during a move. It was a $20 WEN unit from Amazon that replaced my broken old Dremel.
    Didn't seem as fast or powerful, but it still worked to clean an engine block hole on another car with a steel wire brush bit.

    If it's not available in the US, what if there's a way to order it from Japan?
    Maybe they have their own equivalent/version of different classifieds similar to the US
    I know Germany does, for example

    Unless it's something already here that Toyota dealership technicians/mechanics use as a tool
