Since this thread is over a year old, I've had a second kid since but I've been promoted a couple times, making enough that my wife can stay at home, watch the kids, and still run her business part time.

I also do some side gigs as well which pay for mods. My side gigs are graphic design work.

I sell roadkill armadillo armor to the U.S. Government to make Space Shuttle heat shields for the first mission to Mars.

Good job, no longer have kids on payroll (grown up) and 1 mortgage (no other debt). Having no interest in mods that cost big $$$ (wheels/tires/lift kits etc) helps. I prefer Tacomas in stock form.

Yep, welcome to marriage and fuck trophies right?

When the wife and I decided to tie the not after 9 months of vigorous testing, we decided on a few things:

    - Wait 5 years to have kids....to see if we still liked each other enough. We waited 7.
    - We had to live off one paycheck of the highest earner (which has rotated back and fourth between us).
    - Minimal vehicle payments/limited time. Unless the loan is 0%. For us, anything over 20 months of payments is to much.
    - Absolutely no credit card dept...ever. At the end of the month, the full balance is paid in full.
    - Eating out and partying at bars is not a thing we do a few times a week (anymore).

That right there has done well for us.

Where are you getting family plans for 300.00 per month? Any good?

My family plan with the railroad is 220 and it stays 220 even if I have 14 kids

Oh you can't beat the RR insurance, pension, and all the other benefits. My brother works for MRL, and really enjoys it.

Kings, 275/70/17, a few custom items, lots of Meso mods.
Live alone in the mountains. Never married, no kids. 2 homes both paid for so no payments. 4 vehicles only 1 payment. Save a lot of money on heating by using wood only at $10 a cord. No computer or internet just my phone. It all adds up. Goid part of living alone is you spend what you want when you want. Bad part is you're always alone. :notsure:

House daycare bills my 3 year old son. Wife doesn’t really make much. Makes enough to pay for her car that’s about it. Everything else from vacations to groceries all falls on me

If your job does pay the OT for the 35 extra hours that total almost $150k year. So here is some simple finance. If you use 132k for taxes, mortgage, day care etc. that still leaves 18k year left over, that’s 1500 a month that being blown somewhere. No judgement here that just simply makes you like most families in this country that spend every dollar they make and if they really took a look their budget would be amazed at what they waste.

stay the hell away from running a balance on credit cards, its just pissing money away
avoid buying brand new. Depreciation is real money.
shop for deals, means exercising patience and perhaps not getting your ideal item
install everything yourself. Save money on labor and learn in the process. Its a tacoma, not a ferrari...easy to work on.

small stuff matters. Even doing your own oil changes. Save $30-40 bucks doing it yourself each time, it adds up. More importantly though, the knowledge you gain translates into real cost savings in the future.

marry a cosmetic surgeon or estate planning attorney, that also helps

Daycare costs are a damned crime. It'll almost be cheaper for my wife to quit her job than for us to pay daycare. Thank god my parents are moving down here next year.

Agreed. I do save. I have a fund for my son with money going into it every week. Over time comes and goes so sometimes I can’t pull more than 60 hours a week. So far this year OT has been steady thankfully. Also have a four wheeler I’ve been paying extra on trying to pay it off. And I do blow some haha

I have to work extra shifts/overtime. Because every purchase has to be an argument with S.O. I have to purchase shit on clearance, eBay or from our good friends in China.
