The current Ranger is a tried and proven design. It’s been around since 2011 in other parts off the world. The USA version uses the 2.3 EB, a 10-speed auto transmission and meets our emission and crash standards.

The only problem I have with the new Ranger is the resale value down the road and the pricing. I can purchase a 4wd TRD Tacoma for thousands less than a Ranger in my area. Owners belong to a very exclusive club because I rarely see them on the road.

Wait until they put a diesel in the Ranger, buy it and keep it forever. Then you don't have to worry about the resale value.

Why talk you out of it?

If you are asking for this intervention you have questions about your Tacoma love.

Find or seek your trues self through experimentation.

Go do a comparison drive or rent one.

My favorite truck was my 2000 Ford Ranger. I love my Tacoma but if I could find another well taken care of ranger I would buy it again right away

0/100 rear seat with absolutely no storage under and behind is literally enough to keep me from buying a Ranger. They look great, imo, and are just as high up as my lifted Tacoma, but utility trucks without utilitarian aspects are just a joke.

The first midsize truck to put out a turbocharged V6 or higher will dominate the competition.

I've got a 2007 Ranger. Great little $4000 truck, and I AM NOT a Ford guy. A war pony that wont quit. Does 80% of everything I would ask my Taco to do. The truck opiate of the masses. How good is it? My Taco is 8 months old and has less than 2500 miles on it.

Yeah, that was my experience as well.
I've owned 4 Fords over the years.
    Two cars bought new, a used ex-fleet F-150 and a new F-150.

Oddly, the ex-fleet F-150 was the best one, but I traded it in at 110,000 miles.
The others were all shot before 100,000 miles.
I didn't baby any of them, but was conscientious about maintenance.

Not statistically significant, but it's enough to have prompted me to look elsewhere. :notsure:

    As to the new Ranger...
    First year model.
Dinky turbo 4. I gotta wonder about over-straining a little engine (head gasket issues down the road?).
Maybe I'm wrong, but I'll let others find out about that.
That stupid back seat that doesn't fold flat. Really?
Not that I would be likely to go for a 4-door crew cab, but wow.

Anyway, I'm happy with my 2nd gen Tacoma, purchased with 58,000 miles on it.
The 4.0L V-6 in it was produced after the head gasket redesign. New frame, drives like new.
My intention is to keep it until it no longer makes sense to fix it.
Maybe I can finally get 200,000 miles out of a vehicle. Or 300,000? :fingerscrossed:

Modern diesel engines are nowhere close to "buy it and keep it forever". Look at how the diesel Colorados and Canyons are doing.

I'm confused. You're complaining about having to fix Ford's... yet in the next breath say how reliable you expect your Taco to be that had it's entire frame replaced at less than 60K miles.

I do agree that a small turbo V6 in a mid size truck would be awesome. I don't think we're going to see it as it will cut into full size sales and they make more money on full size. Think the best chance is with a Ranger Raptor getting the 2.7/3.0 turbo.

Be honest: How many of you would have considered a Ranger Raptor if Ford offered it here in North America?

If a Ranger Raptor were here it would probably be $60k so that's hard to be cross shopped with the Tacoma.
