    So it was brought to my attention about the adjusted odometer readings and the larger tire size. This is not something I considered in my calculations.The 285/75 tire is a 7.27% larger diameter tire.

    I don't have my raw data at the moment but if I use my base mpg per tank and assume 15 gallons per tank and a 7.27% adjustment in tire size difference.

    The average MPG jumps from 15.93 to 17.04, however these number are very raw but it looks like 5.29s and 33s average 17 mpgs.

    I'll update my spread sheets with the correct mpgs based on tire adjustments

    I’m not quite ready to tear deep enough into this thing to put a supercharger on. It will happen, one day when I grow up a little more. Or maybe just when I pay the truck off. Whichever happens first.

    Just got a quote from Jon and the guys at ECGS yesterday for my 5.29's. Gonna make a weekend of it and take the wife down to NC while they wrench on the truck. Pretty excited to see the difference. In regards to REM polishing, that wasn't included in my quote and wasn't offered in the email correspondence....I guess I need to ask about that. Any idea how much extra that usually is?

    All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
    Keep us posted. Was curious if they keep the REM polished in stock. I too will be making a drive, and it’s a decent one.
    Would prefer to get ones that I can drive on for the trip back home.
    Obviously I will be stopping to let them break in, but due to the fact it would be a full day of driving back to my place. Just seems to make more sense.

    Will do. I'm not THAT far from them but it's still enough of a drive that i wouldn't want to have to really do the more extensive break in process if i didn't have to.

    Exactly. I am 8hrs from them. Or if I roll up to Asheville to my mtn house, and then make a trip it’s more like 4 I think.

    Hows everyones 5.29 swaps going? mine has been strange lately. I think the computer has "learned" the new gearing so its upshifting way sooner. When im cruising at 40-50 sometimes itll go all the way to 6th gear. When I try to punch the gas, it will stay in that high gear and barely move until I literally "pedal to the metal" lol. Anyone else having these issues?

    Do you have the OV tune? I find some funny shifting behavior with my 4.88. Just waiting for 2.0 version that is supposed to be optimized for gears. I find myself just using S mode or using ETC mode a lot more and that helps with the quick upshifts or weird downshifts.

    No I dont have OVTune. But I do use ECT power mode much more often now since it will shift higher and hold the gears longer when driving regular stop and go traffic.

    6th gear by 40 is expected but I havent had any issues with it downshifting.

    Just for kicks, what's the highest quote you guys have received for a gear swap? I contacted this shop knowing it was going to be higher than the others I've received but didn't think it was going to be this high.

    This was for a set of Nitro 5.29 with master install kits.

    There are a few variables that will ultimately affect the price but for planning purposes expect to be around $4,000 for parts and installation.

    I wouldn't know since I haven’t done it yet, but I think the average is around 3k.. about 1,500 in parts and roughly the same in labor.

    Maybe try telling him the total of the parts.. so they can more accurately give you the cost of labor?

    That quote includes the cost of the gears. It’s my third quote, all with Nitro gears. 1st quote was $2800 and 2nd one was $2500.

    2800 parts and labor seems fine. But 2800 just on labor seems like way too much. You can also buy a fully built 3rd member and install it your self?
