Has anyone put a pop n lock on 2019 access cab TRD tailgate. Is the number used a 8535 and is there a video to maybe view for hook up to passenger side door lock. Thanks very much. Always seems to be someone with great info and help on this site.

I put that part number on a 2019 double cab yesterday. Wired to passenger door locks. Took about an hour and works well. There are some good videos on YouTube.

Hate to say it but if you search around there are several threads on this (same as the other 3rd gens I assume) - including tips on the install

All I remember is that my instructions were wrong and I had pop and lock on the phone for an hour. IIRC, the wiring diagram was wrong so I used YouTube to fix. Also, poking wires thru the firewall is a pain. Tape the wires to a straightened wire hanger.

Its easy enough and much cheaper to just buy a door popper off Amazon and wire it up yourself.

I have the @KTJO 4x4 kit. Besides a couple connectors being loose, which is an easy fix, the kit is fine. I upgraded to the new bracket etc and PNP kit. I think I had less than $100 in all and didn’t have to spend any time making it myself. I’m lazy.

Why did you go through the firewall? I wired mine through the rubber grommet on the passenger floorboard. Easy.

Passenger side firewall boot has two rubber "nipples" coming off of it that are about three inches long. Snip the end of one off with scissors and run the wire through it, using some dish soap to lube; then, put a zip tie over the nipple and cinch it tight once you've installed. No need to poke a hole like you've gotta do on the driver side.

Not sure about others, but I ran mine through the firewall because living in the salt belt I don't want even the possibility of adding an ingress point for water. Going through the passenger boot is super easy and there was still about 3 feet or wire left to coil up.

I get that, but you live in a desert and I live where the roads are made of salt in the winter. So why take a chance when the firewall is just as easy?

I had an old S10 with a driver side floor board that was rusted out because of water under the carpet going unnoticed for too long.

Ive been through plenty of heavy downpours, too though, and no issues. But I get avoiding the risk altogether. That’s one of the reasons why I did not want a sunroof. Partly because I didn’t want it to leak but mostly because I’d be the idiot leaving it open overnight right before a rainstorm.

As mentioned above, consider buying the bolt-on @KTJO 4x4 kit. Installed like butter for me. Katie is great and is contributing a lot to the community. You may wish to buy some sound deadening to apply to the inside surface of the tailgate, actuator is pretty loud.

I cut the nipple off and lubed my shaft before I inserted to ensure seamless penetration.

Don't forget to zip tie the nipple after installation to ensure static penetration.

Thanks man! We are actually producing a new connection plate here soon that makes things a lot quieter. You might want to check it out soon ;)

Honestly, the audible tone it gives off when locking and unlocking isn’t really that loud. At least not on mine. Could it be quieter? Sure. But I wouldn’t bother with reducing mine personally.
