FYI, when I was searching for my Tacoma a few months back I inquired about the manuals that Whittier had in stock. All of them were marked up over MSRP. Don't know if that's still the case though.

I actually test drove a couple of them already. I believe some are marked up because they are already lifted with 5100's and had aftermarket wheels and tires. I believe they where methods with 285's. I've seen at least 4 Tacoma's this way and a couple of 4Runners.

Gotcha. The ones that I specifically asked about were completely stock. The salesman said the manuals are a rare commodity in SoCal (which is true), hence the markup.

But hey, things may have changed. A quick phone call or internet inquiry from the OP will let him know what their pricing looks like.

They are crazy to marking up a manual if they are doing that because there's a very small niche of people looking for a manual and can be ordered from factory directly. I bought my 2017 from Toyota of Hanford which the same owner now owns Toyota of Whittier and Honda of Whittier as well for that matter. All part of the Ocean dealerships. I got my truck at invoice from Hanford.

I thought they were crazy. In fact, I remember chuckling when the salesperson said it was due to supply/demand. I ended up flying to Portland to pick one up.

Jason Billings at Toyota of Escondido was he best deal I found. I emailed all dealers within 250 miles of exactly what I wanted and he came back with the best pricing and ordered the vehicle I wanted. No hassle , no hidden fees ,and no upsale. By far the easiest time I had buying a car.

I got my 19 DCSB TRD Off Road 4X4 from Valley Hi Toyota in Victorville for 33,700 + TTL. I went through their internet sales via Car Gurus. No hassles, no dealing, they found exactly what I was after. Great service. If they were closer, I'd have them do my Toyota Care services.

    Hi Everyone,

I found this thread because user "Pearljam" recommended me to the OP and he reached out to me. I am an autobroker who sells a very high volume of new Tacomas and 4Runners. I am extremely aggressive in my pricing and very straightforward (Purchases or Leases).

Feel free to reach out to me for any inquiries 310 405 3507

I also have a few Manual Transmission Tacoma Offroads that I specially ordered arriving next month, Selling these for way under dealer cost.

I traveled over 350 miles to santa rosa freeman toyota for this. Beat socal prices by $1200. Made a road trip out of it, visited Russian River Brewery, drove home next day

Also, if you have Costco (or pay $60 for membership) they offer no haggle prices and will give you OTD prices on the truck you want.

    Good luck

Close to invoice? Unless it’s a pro it should be well under invoice, like by $1000-1500 below. Try Toyota of orange and try to deal directly with the fleet manager.

Costco and AAA car buying service is typically like $500 below so that’s a good starting point.

I’m Nov of 2018 my 2019 Tacoma was $500 below, right now being the tail end of the 2019 run it should way less. For comparison I was offered a 2018 model for $1500 below invoice.

Wait the 2018 may have been $2500 below and my 2019 was $1000 below. It’s been awhile I’m not certain but out the door my 2019 off road 4x4 long bed with tech package was $39,400 out the door. The 2018 would have been nearly$1500 less.

Also I was able to get Elmore Toyota to match the price Toyota of orange offered as well as south coast Toyota. I went with Elmore because they had the color i wanted. I delt with them over Facebook chat.

South coast was willing to let me walk at $100 less so I knew it was a decent price at the time.

All of my communications was over the phone or chat so was painless. Less song and dance.

id like to point out that's there is no such thing as 'dealer invoice price'. most manufacturers (Toyota included) have holdback. dealers used to markup from their invoice, and there is an 'invoice' but it's nothing more than a marketing and appeasement to the customer. essentially they can offer it below invoice and still make 5-7pts because it's built into the 'invoice price'

if everyone is getting 'below invoice' or some 'steal of a deal' yet dealers are still making money... stop and think about it. Dealers get money back from Toyota at the end of the year based on their numbers. If you think you are the master negotiater because you got it for less than sticker, cool story bro, and if you like the haggle...ALWAYS BUY AT THE END OF THE MONTH IN DECEMBER. that's when sales people are under the screws to get inventory sold.

If anyone wants to read more: https://www.edmunds.com/car-buying/dealer-holdback/
