Indeed it was. I pretty much help my sister and BIL with her 2 boys; An "on-call" baby sister/handyman for whatever she needs around the house. I was looking at used Hobies and still couldn't justify dropping serious cash on a fishing kayak.

I took the new kayak today (maiden voyage) into the Delaware bay for some black drum. I realized instantly that a 3 lb anchor is not enough to hold a kayak!

Try a bruce or claw anchor, much better than a mushroom or grapnel anchor.

Upgraded my seat on my Hobie Outback last week. Worked wonders. Beats the old style yak seats that kill your back. I had bought a couple of standard seats from Academy Sports for my flat bottom boat. Just by chance I set one in the Outback and it fit like a glove. I drilled a hole on each side toward the front of the seat (not pictured), and tie wrapped to the yak eyes where you secure the old seats. This way there isn't a chance of you flipping back. Took it out to a local lake and even though you set about 10" higher sits still stable. Well worth the $35 plus 10 minutes to mount it. 58163315093__412AAA01-B85F-47F5-A909-BEA76586FBCA.jpg

Sweet setup! How big of a PITA is it to get the kayak onto and off the roof of the camper?

I’ll post in here to hopefully contribute a little.

I’m a big guy at 6’1 275 and I’m fishing out of a ascend 10T SOT. I’ve fished literally all my life and I have a 20’ bullet bass boat with a 150 Johnson. There is nothing better then my big ass in my yak in skinny waters early in the morning compared to my bass boat in big open water. My friend has the ascend 12T SOT and it’s better no doubt then my 10T. I sold myself short on the 10’ from BPS because I know what I’m capable of and how to fish my type of waters here in TN. IF YOU ARE A BIG GUY AND WANT TO KAYAK FISH, save your money and research. There are too many good kayaks out there so whatever you do, do not sell yourself short.

I'm actually hoping to get the 10T for my next kayak. I'm fishing out of a 10' future beach discovery SOT now. Space is actually OK. My biggest reason for wanting to switch is the seat. I also like the wide open design of the ascend. I'm barely 5',7" so I don't think I need a 12' Kayak, but the 12T looks pretty good, too.

My friend, if you have the money and time, do your research. Find a kayak to stand up and fish in when you get to shallow waters. The BPS Ascend kayaks you can stand in but you better have the balance of a tight rope walker. For big guys, it’s impossible to stand in. Plus, you need outriggers with skirts to prevent the back half of your kayak to not flood completely or tip if you set the hook like King Kong lol. They are decent kayaks for what they are worth but you will want something better. Personally, after this year, I’m dead set on a Bonafide SS107. Just tested one on the rivers here last week and I WAS STANDING UP USING MY PADDLE IN MOVING WATERS. Unbelievably stable kayak. Once I buy it, I’ll probably never buy another one lol.

Edit: the seat is nice in those kayaks, but they rip easy. Just a heads up. Only had mine for a year before it ripped and had to buy another one.

I appreciate the insight. I really like the open layout of the ascend. I'll probably shop around before I pull the trigger on anything.

My problem is that I could never see myself spend $1000 plus on a kayak. I'm fishing out of a $350-ish kayak now and I'm 99% satisfied. I just want a better seat and a little more space.

    Thank you sir.
Since that's a relatively light kayak, it wasn't too terrible. I stood it up on one end and leaned it on the camper, then climbed onto the camper. Just pulled it straight up.

I hauled my ascend 12T up to the Prinsu roof rack this weekend. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. First time with that particular kayak. It may be tough getting two up there and having room to stand and strap them down. I may need to build a camping/kayak trailer.

I’m getting tired of fishing from banks and shore lines. Thinking I’m going to pull the trigger on a fishing kayak to catch me some fat hawgs :spending:

You won't regret it. I got one about 10 years ago, one of the best purchases I've ever made.
