Detailing Questions

So I just washed my one month old 2019 OR with chemical guys car wash soap and rinsed. I have a softener on the house so I figured I would let it air dry and see how well it did. I was actually quite impressed but there were some water spots left behind still. I wanted to try to avoid having to dry it as I imagine even with the softest of clothes that micro scratches will still happen.

So my first question is what does everyone recommend for drying, chamois, microfiber, leaf blower?

Second, I plan to put some chemical guys jet seal on. Should I rewash and dry a different way, or can I use quick detailer over the entire vehicle to remove water spots?

I really wanted to do a ceramic coating, but can't justify the $1500 cost when there are so many more that need to get done. Thanks for your help.

 

I basically use the same stuff but no water softener. I use a $30 electric blower. Gets water out from the cracks too. I use Jet seal but I also use a clay bar first then jet seal. 2 coats just before winter.

 

I used a microfiber to dry only once. they become trash towels after I used it lol. But i never try to wash them LOL

 

Tried the leaf blower, it's alright when the sun is not out or very hot. Water softeners don't really eliminate hard water so I'd be towel drying rather than letting water purposely dry.

There are many products better than Jet Seal. Plenty of spray on wipe off sealants to choose from that are great. If you prefer a sealant similar to Jet Seal look at Wolfgang Deep Gloss or Jescar Powerlock.

 

I have been using hard water from my town, and drying it off work microfiber towels for 5 years now. I have no issues when using them and I use Blackfire Paint Sealant, and Blackfire Ceramic Coating. Look at this 5 year old New England Salt Belt paint. This was just done last week in my driveway.

 

Why? No reason not to wash and reuse, especially if you have good microfiber.

OP. Take a look at the Rag Company, it is probably one of the best resources for microfiber towels. Sounds like you want a pro ceramic but don’t want to spend the $$$. If you are comfortably putting on a sealant then I would try a consumer ceramic coating like Optimum Opti-gloss or Carpro CQuartz UK. Both are super easy to apply and easy to remove. Won’t have the last as long as the pro line but will get you solid protection. I have used both.

Detailer is fine, look into rinseless/waterless wash products like ONR, Uber, Ech2o. You can mix in various dilutions to make detailer, clay lube, waterless wash and rinseless wash. More economical than a stand alone detail spray.

 

Griots pfm is hand down the best drying towel. They are on sale for $20 on Amazon right now. The rag company double twistress is pretty good too but it's no pfm.
Wash MF by itself with microfiber detergent/restore and dry on low temp, again by themselves.
Any contact with paint will risk marring but unless you invest hundreds in a DI water system or a really good blower, you'll have to use towels. And griots pfm is the best to use because you'll have minimal contact with the paint because it works so well.
I use carpro ech2o/reload mix for water spots and it works great and protects the paint as well.

These are normally $25+ and the bigger size about $40. I highly recommend buying a few at this price. I know $20 for a towel sounds nuts but wait til you useit, worth every penny,

 

Agree on the PFM, it's probably the best overall detailing product I've used. Good to hear the RagCo one isn't the same, it sure looks like it is similar. I've used many of their towels and they are great but none of them is as versatile as the PFM.

Just started using Ech2o, it's pretty good stuff. Order of Reload just came in been meaning to use that mix for some time now.

 

The mix is really nice for touch ups and getting out spots and streaks. Ech20 and reload are also amazing on their own too.
The pfm towel is a freaking miracle towel, nothing comes close to it, I have 3 now

 

One 16x16 will pretty much dry the whole truck. I rotate about 4 of those and almost never break out the larger one that you linked to. I'd buy the even larger ones than the one with the teal border, just not sure there is much reason to.

The $20 one with the teal boarder will dry my tundra without ringing out, even if it's not allowed to air dry at all. Its amazing how much water it holds
