    Hey guys,
I have the plan to update my ECU from 04B03 to 04B04 tomorrow.. However, I've been running OVT Tune 87 Base for the B03:

    - Do I need to restore my ECU to stock program before I update to B04? Or
    - Can I just update to B04 with OVTune already installed?

    Thanks!!

You can just update to B04 with OVTune already installed.

Question, is the OV tune program vehicle specific, like I could use the program from a buddy and download on my cpu?

It is tied to the ECU but you could use your friend's hardware (cable etc.) and save some $$, just pay the license fee.

Just did the update from "04B03" --> "04B04" which was super easy

    Followed by:

    OVTune "1.05.1 with 87 Base"

What a positive difference both updates made.. Def. would advice others to do the same

Quick note: you should only use version 1.05.1 if your truck suffers from the "shutter" issue with the normal version 1.05.

If you don't experience the shutter with 1.05, using 1.05.1 could cause more issues than it solves. You may want to revert to 1.05 and test that first.

Curious as to why updating the ECU makes a difference? At the end of the day the tune is completely overwriting the stock code, correct?

To be fair, I have no clue what version my ECU is, still waiting UPS to get here (today at some point)...I did have TSB 0062-18 done when it first came out, for shits and giggles...there has never been any weird shifting issues with my truck.

I suspect, just like with updates for say a mobile phone, there are things like security checks to only allow certain updates on certain platforms. So there are ECU updates needed to target a specific original ECU version for your truck. Toyota can provide a new base ECU while OVT is essentially patching that specific base.

That's my understanding anyhow....no expert here.

4.88 tune anticipation is a 9/10 on the richter right now.
