I completed this upgrade a month ago and am still very happy with the results. Not night and day, but a good improvement in clarity in the highs, And the tweeters handle decent volume without distortion. I replaced all my door speakers with 6-1/2” woofers and the Subaru tweeters alone have no problems taking care of the upper frequencies. I didn’t want to get coaxial style speakers for my doors as the extra needless tweeters in them rob power at higher volumes, and add too much treble. TL;Dr- The Subaru tweeters mod is all the tweeting you need in a Taco.

My ears are happy, just did this mod last night, took about 15 minutes start to finish. Hardest part was putting the bolts back in by the windshield and that took about 30 seconds tops. Really happy with the sound quality, it certainly made my commute more enjoyable this morning. Front and Rear speakers were ordered this morning to finish this off.

Besides trading it in for a 2019. Any suggestions on how to get this cap back on? Passenger side. After the speaker install it not going back on. Sorry about the pic quality, walked out to my truck and forgot my keys. Thanks speaker plastic.jpg

I struggled with mine a little bit but you have to just mess around with it until it aligns property.

I'm still amazed at the sound Toyota gets out of the door speakers.

There are a couple small tabs on that cover that bend easily, straighten them back out and it will snap back in place.

The cover thingy has a raised piece on it that fits into a slot on the pillar piece, for lack of a better description.

I replaced my speakers a week or 2 ago and that was a vast improvement. I replaced the tweeters last night and that really filled the holes and raised the sound floor. It sounds great, a necessary mod if you like music at all.

Assume you got this by now. Just in case, I found the tabs needed to be pretty much perfectly aligned and it’ll slip right on. Try different angles.

How big of a PITA was this? I also have the JBL premium package and have been looking into doing this... / How did you make your own harness? Just splice the wires?

It wasn't bad really. Took an extra 10 minutes to cut the old connectors, splice and solder the connections and wrap the wires with cloth tape (prevent rattling). To me, still worth it. However - might want to consider replacing the four door speakers first then decide on tweeters.

Have you replaced the door speakers w/o adding another amp? If so what did you add? I want to do an upgrade but I want to utilize the stock amp and wiring as much as possible.

Have you noticed a difference with the tweeters being upgraded?

Sorry for all the questions haha
