I know it was a joke, I was pointing out the irony since so many people that are criticizing the OP about wrapping his truck to protect the paint are also the people that put seat covers and floor mats to protect their seats.

And yes, straight paint feels better than wrap, but despite my signature I dont rub my truck alot

 

Some guys wrap their trucks to prevent pinstriping out on the trails.

I am usually to each there own type guy or at least try to be, but holy shit!! You saran warped your truck? It is a truck, you know a tool in your tool bag for work. Does anyone just get a Tacoma and just drive it, work with it, it is not a piece of art. Pro owners are kinda silly

 

So it's safe to say you never wash your fire trucks.. or take care of your gear because it's just a tool right?

 

Of course we wash our trucks and maintain our gear and maintain my personal stuff. However, we do not wrap our trucks, scba, tools, etc... in a protective "saran wrap." . We use it, gets used up, and gets replaced. Saran wrap is not prolong a used tools life.

 

It’s a preference, there is no right or wrong. There is no sense to keep this going...

 

Not gonna knock OP as I know plenty of people that have spent that type of $ on way more frivolous stuff. But just an idea for anyone else considering something like this, just go full vinyl wrap.

Wraps have become so popular with so many installers prices have plummeted on them. My buddy got his Ford Raptor done in nardo gray and paid little over $3k, if you're gonna spend that much I figure at least switch to a cool color


I'm seriously considering wrapping my Tacoma in matte pink... friends think I'm crazy but I can get a wrap super cheap I send my buddy a lot of business so he said he'd do mine at cost. Matte pink is just so outrageous on a Tacoma I think I'll do it just for the lolz.. especially if I can get the custom license plate "PNK TACO"

 

Wait so that part that he dragged the key across is ruined now? I don't mean to trash on OP but this seems like a terrible idea. That's clearly more fragile than paint and while the film certainly protected the paint from those key marks, they're hugely obvious in the film. If it was paint they could have been barely noticeable and likely easily buffed out. One trip down a forest route and the entire film is going to be trashed, whereas a nicely waxed paint job would have some barely noticeable scratches, if any at all, that could be buffed out or 80%+ hidden by just waxing them over. Am I missing something?

The idea is the PPF sacrifices instead of paint. It costs very little to reapply the individual section of PPF. It’s not one entire wrap, but rather various sections.

 

Looks good, OP. Can't say I wouldn't do the same if I had the cash. Well, I probably wouldn't because I am still pretty cheap. I used film below the rear window where my dog hangs out to avoid nail scratches.

Hey now, not all of us. I have less than 8K on mine, and it's already pinstriped from trails. Not bad ones, they will buff out. Some day when I get around to it. But I use mine like I would any other 4WD truck, and while I cringed the first time, subsequent stripes didn't really phase me.

 

Does this protect from the mall mom's slamming their car door into mine. How would you fix the dent then, would you have to remove wrap to get to dents to fix it. Not really worried about rocks I'm more worried about doors slammed into mine

 

$6795 was what I was quoted to do the whole thing in Expel Ultimate. I did not ask how much, they just told me. I got the front back to the rear of the Sport scoop, lights, mirrors, pillars, roof back 12", door edges, scoop, door handle wells and door handles done $1495. At Expel corporate's install center in San Antonio. All true professionals.

 

It will protect to a certain point. If impact is strong then you get a ding. However the paint won’t chip from a shopping cart. Dent repairs are cheap, and yes you need to remove the film from that section only. I’m not concerned about dings, easy fix. I’m concerned with paint being removed.

No wax needed. I never used to use car washes cause I didn’t want swirl marks in my clear coat. It’s a maintenance free product.

 

That's great. I'm a big fan of maintenance free products. I replaced my decks with trex just so I'd never have to stain or paint. Looking at replacing siding next. Cost is way more than wood but worth it to me.

 

I have a better solution than a overly priced wrap. Just keep it in a garage and never drive it lol. It’s a Tacoma. Don’t think we will see them rolling across the stage at Barrett Jackson anytime soon.
