Ok ladies and gents....heres my dilemma. I have an 07’ Taco and its the TRD Sport that claims 6500lbs towing capacity. I need to replace the shocks BUT i dont want to lose my towing capabilities.

Should i get stock shocks again or whats my alternative aftermarket choices?

I had an F250 i put the Rancho RS9000 9-way adjustable shocks on that worked phenomenal for towing. Ok im ready for everyones thoughts and experiences.

Oh i tow currently a 12’ steel landscaping trailer (1250lbs) and usually have 3 full-size utility quads on it so it turns out being close to 3000-3500lbs all loaded with gear and all.

TRD Sport rear shocks are terrible shocks, any non-yellow bilstein rear shock is an upgrade. TacoWorld all usually agree the Bilstein 5100's are the best replacement shock for the Tacoma.

The 5100's are nice if you add a leaf, or a helper they are designed to handle the extra inch.

You could always grab a fresh set of third gen shocks off craigslist. They come up pretty cheap pretty often.

    - shocks dont support the weight of the vehicle, springs do that

    - lots of guys use the airbags over the axle to help with hauling

    - google your question with tacomaworld in the title.. lots of threads on towing already. Pretty sure there is a "towing bible" around here somewhere

Which has 0 to do with the shocks.

If you are having a problem with a sagging rear when loaded, and you have not exceeded tongue wt or gross vehicle weight, doing something with the springs is what is needed.

Not saying you don't need shocks. Just that shocks are not a load bearing item.

Springs bear load, shocks control the spring motion. Which is why their proper name is actually 'damper'.

All homo aside, this is the easiest explanation I’ve read since joining this week. Slightly condescending but a few of us are just learning about our trucks. Thanks man.

You don't need shocks, you need an aal.

AAL doesn't help or matter when the stock yota leafs are trash. A new, custom leaf pack will be the best option.

I misread, OP needs both shocks and either an aal or preferably a leaf pack, depending on what his budget is along with addressing a front lift to level out the truck. If he chooses to avoid a lift, then new shocks and rear airbags may be an alternative option.

I bought a "new take off" leaf pack of a guy on FB from a 3rd gen. They had around 3k on them at time of take off. I'm replacing the previous owners Block lift in favor of a newer leaf pack plus AAL and new 5125's. Should be GTG for a while with this setup.

My point it, there's more cost effective solutions out there.
