I'm just waiting for SLC to become like Denver here in the next 10 years.

My first "real" mtb was Stumpy, as well. However, that was way back in 1992, so it was definitely a very different time for this industry.

My 1992 Stumpjumper FutureShock was f'n RAD, BRO! :headbang:

While I completely agree that Specialized is far too litigious, ( I avoid Specialized, but have owned some in the past) regarding the Hardrock rider, all those things should have been checked by the bike shop, they're not really the fault of Specialized.

There's a lot of truth in the old saying "you can't polish a turd." I don't disagree that the bike shop probably took some shortcuts (most do) but after my buddy and I took turns riding that bike; we were both flabbergasted at what they ("S") consider as an entry level MTB. The two Giants I purchased for my 11yo nephews last Christmas were spec'd better than that Hardrock.

I mean it literally; the bike was being ridden on one of the easiest, entry level trails that could exist.

I imagine SLC will have some really strange debates and issues if a large non-mormon population moves in. Going to Moab I was pretty shocked at the laws that have been passed and are enforced in Utah. From the really relaxed: you can glue wheels on a toaster and they'll issue you a license plate. To the really strict: You want to buy COLD beer??? Not in our state sonny.

Isn’t it also difficult to buy beer after 9pm or something. Not sure where I heard that though

all beer is sold through state owned stores and they have a really low limit on the alcohol content for both beer and liquor.

I think SLC sounds nice too... i'm guessing a bit like denver climate wise, you have the mountains right there, but even better is you are closer to Moab :) Moab/GJ/Fruita area is my fav place to ride (haven't been to the PNW/Whistler yet so that might change lollll) so that would be a bonus of living out there!

I think you Specialized haters are pretty harsh. Not my favorite brand - the company or the bikes - but a lot of my serious rider friends like their Stumpies, Enduros, Cambers etc. My nephew owns a small Specialized LBS and he says they treat him well. And, the company and employees do a lot for our local trails. Interestingly, one of the best LBS’s here sells only Trek, but I don’t know anyone who has a Trek mountain bike.

Already happening. You should have seen the rhetoric around prop 2 medical marijuana.

Or abolishing the 3.2 beer thing

4% abv and below is well stocked in every grocery store and gas station, even cold. But if you want real beer to include the better staples like Sam Adams and the like, you need to hit the liquor store. Except for the high point beer in the abc stores, its pretty close to how it was in VA. Course I got spoiled living in WA and CA on that front.

Fresh meats on the big bike for tomorrow!

Remembered how frustrating it is to finish a wheel and realize you put the tread on backwards...

Shit... I wanted to get up to Jones pass in a couple weeks. Wonder if it’ll be good this year..

Missoula was on our list too, just a bit too remote for us. Nothing really by there. Winter’s hard too.
Bend has super mild weather, almost the same as Boulder. Another plus for Bend is that it’s just far enough from major population cities that people don’t just come for the day.
But, the population there is growing fast, and so are home prices.

God, the myths and misunderstandings of Utah liquor laws. Honestly, it’s not a big deal. Yeah, there’s some weird shit, but nothing that weird. I’ve seen weirder in random NE towns.

We left SLC because of two major factors. The LDS church and the air quality.
I have nothing against Mormons. Most of my best friends there were Mormons. The problem I have is that they force their beliefs on the general population through legislation and political pressure. It’s an extremely conservative state, and that doesn’t work for us.
The air quality is not something most people know about, but man, it’s bad. I man really bad. And it gets worse every year. Just do a quick google image search for “slc inversion”. You can taste the air some days, and your throat hurts like you’ve been partying and smoking cigs all night.

Yeah, that doesn’t sound right.. Again, myths and legends. Pitchers are all good in Utah.

This was the wildest thing I learned about SLC law when I was there last week. We were literally told by the staff to sit down when we were seen holding a beer while standing. It's craziness! lol

Below is the business card they gave us when we asked them what was up.

I still really loved that place, though, and think I could easily adjust to the strange laws. The outdoor payoff is worth the cost of admission IMO.

(This apparently applies to any establishment identified as a "Restaurant," but not those identified as a "Bar")

Yeah, that 3.2% thing is wild. Outside of a liquor store or canned at the brewery.... I was wondering why when I was there the beers were going down so easily and I didn’t feel drunk. The. My friends told me the deal. Even an all-American Bud Heavy at 3.2 just isn’t right.

Ah okay. Perhaps it was because Moab is a small town? I remember not being able to get beer at a gas station or cold beer anywhere. Also it was about three years ago so maybe things have changed a bit.

Do they still have the liquor measuring machines at the bar and no doubles?
