Yea I get better mileage around town and on backroads then I do on the freeway. 50-55 mph seems to be the sweet spot. Anything over 65 and it drops off fast

My 19 OR DC stock but for 265-70 16 Duratrac tires being driven pretty easy, 100 miles of towing, showed 17.5mpg for the tank when fill up time came. That seemed pretty good. Filled up, it took 17.5 gallons to go 268 miles. Yuck. Anyone’s computer mileage as far off as that? I’m wondering if I’m doing something wrong.

I would say that matches up with my computer. Kinda pisses me off. Last time I filled up with going about 20 miles after the fuel light went off, I still had 4.5 gallons left. Wish I could force this computer to learn.

My MPG with a high rise topper, and 265/75/17 KO2’s in town has been 17 corrected for size. I drive very easy too but it doesn’t seem to make a huge difference with this truck. I could achieve 8 mpg over sticker on my 01’ Jetta manual with mixed city driving but this truck is not worth the effort I have found.

I have no idea how you guys are getting these numbers. Every drive must be downhill with a tailwind. Mine bounces between 16.0 and 16.1...has never displayed anything above 16.4.

Consistently getting 20.5 to 21.5 and that’s with 275/65/16 tires. My commute ranges from 30-75mph posted limit. I always have ECT PWR on, and switch between S4 for in town and S5 or D on the interstate.

It takes several thousand miles for gas mileage to improve. 1000 miles won’t do it. I have 1900 miles on my stock 2019 and get 19-20 combined and 23-24 highway. I have had more than 30 new cars in my 50+ years of driving. It’s been my experience there is a noticeable change in engine smoothness and mpg improvement at 10-12k miles.

I won’t claim to know much about anything but I’m skeptical of fuel economy improvement with the accumulation of miles unless there is some programmed computer thing from the factory. My Mazda 6 mpg readout is surprisingly accurate usually tells me +/- .5 mpg. My Ford Transit readout is less so but not terrible if l pre-calculate a 1mpg optimism Ford evidently programmed in. The Toyota readout is just wacky. It is also self-resetting as opposed to manual on the other vehicles. I may well be doing something wrong. All the lawyers crap in the owners manual made it totally unreadable for me. I’m a dumb ass but I can figure out a gas mileage calculation from a fill up and trip odometer reset.

I posted as a sanity check not to complain about the Tacoma which I’m enjoying. The vast disparity in reported fuel economy is interesting but my truck, being dealer delivered stock, seems like it should return something close to EPA numbers. I keep mixing some towing and I don’t have enough miles on the truck, true. I’ve come on a Tacoma web forum to gain experience from others, maybe share some of my own.

I also look for some sense of community and like hearing from those with more experience than my own.

If I’m missing something or being plain old stupid, I’m okay with that, it ain’t nothin’ new.

My stock 6mt off road with about 10k miles averages about 17-18.

My work drive is 35-40mph stop and go with lights. If i am doing all highway at about 65-70mph i can get 21-22.

I just checked my milage for the first time since I bought my truck (3 weeks today) and I have averaged 22.5 mpg on this last tank. Traffic is horrible this time of year, constantly stop and go, ac blasting, leaving the truck running for 5-10+ minutes while not even in the thing. I also drove it off road in 4 high for maybe 5 miles and it was running for at least an hour during this time (scouting deer). Truck is stock with TC Tonneau (factory), predator steps and bed Matt (after market). I was very pleasantly surprised at the 22.5 mpg average.

ETA: Truck has around 800 miles (total) on it right now. 265/65 R17
1 other thing about my driving during this tank I have had to stomp on the gas just about every time pulling out of the office due to the traffic. Also, forgot twice not once did I do the same 4 high thing scouting deer during this tank.

I decided to try for 450 miles on a tank. Had to run is lower than I normally do, but....

    Last fillup:

    Current fillup:

And amount of fuel (actual was 24.0 mpg, consistent with the -.2 mpg I have seen every other time I've compared actual to the computer).

I just had my 10k service done since getting my truck new in April. There’s been about a 10-15% increase in economy over that time. Started in the 17mpg combined range and now easily getting 19 around town and 22 on the highway.

Most recent fill up. 353 miles. 14.2 gallons = 24.9 mpg. Computer indicated 24.7 .

I will be towing a trailer with a load tomorrow, for about 60 miles, so fuel economy will suffer.

Tacoma DCLB Purchased in December 2018. Stock. My daily drive is 50/50 city and highway. About 30 KM round trip daily commute.

In the winter with winter tires I was getting an average of 14L/100KM - 17mpg. Highway driving down to 11-12L/100KM - 19-21mpg.

Over the spring and summer my gas mileage has improved a lot. My daily commute is 11 - 11.5 L/100. 20.5 - 21 mpg.

On a recent 1500 KM (900 mile) road trip I averaged 10L/100KM - 23.5 MPG. Lots of hills. Cruise control was set at 105 KM/HR - 65 mph.

    I'm happy with those numbers.

I recently took a round trip of about 409 miles each way of mostly highway driving between 65 and 75 mph. Tires were Falken Wild Peak, size 245-75-17; truck is 2017 Sport access cab manual with Pro exhaust. Mileage seems close to advertised mileage.

    Trip average:
818 miles (very close to Google Maps total)
    12.261 + 14.536 + 11.027 = 37.824 gallons total
    21.6 mpg

Average for one stretch of 70 -75 mph (AC off):
    234 miles (from highway markers)
    11.027 gallons
21.2 mpg (actual); 22.3 mpg (computer)

    Other:
I used the AC for about ¼ of the trip; it seemed to reduce mileage by about 1.5 mpg

If I drive the speed limit on various highways, I easily get 21-22.
24 is very doable at speeds lower than 60mph.
However I drive this thing super slow. I got rid of my GTI, I don't need to drive fast in a Taco.

I get about 18 with my '19 M/T but I'll see speeds around 70/75 on the highways which leaves us M/T owners at a whopping 2500 RPMs. I can easily see getting up into the 20s if you drive this thing at 55 everywhere.

O/P and others should be getting more with an auto.

    Highway mpg depends how fast you’re going. 70mph, I can get 21+. 80-90, I get 18
