Check out my build thread (Beginning of Money Pit)
IIRC 4 or 3.5 should be fine.

Edited to add, I recently purchased SCS f5s in 16 with 3.5 bs, with plans to go with 315s.

Small world. I went to Tech from 00-05. You're a little off on your test range size though. EMRTC is only 26 sq.miles. I worked at EMRTC as a student and after I graduated until 2014.

NM Tech offers a masters in explosives. It's one of only a few that offer degrees in explosives. I think for one of the courses they design their own shaped charge liner, and then test it out at EMRTC to see how it performs.

Maybe 26 sq miles of dedicated test ranges but they claim 40 sq mile of field testing and training ranges on their website (I think primarily because the mountain areas aren't considered test ranges but are part of the facilities). I worked there for a while too under a few of the engineers and then in the Chemistry Labs on some fun detection work.

My favorite Lab was probably explosive welding and compaction.

Plenty of great memories out there and led to a fun job of blowing up vehicles for science.

It's a work in progress. See my build thread.
I'll drag the hose to the garage for mod day, and offer cooling mists.

No can do this Saturday, but maybe sometime soon. If you don't mind exploring by yourself on a relatively close & easy trail I'd suggest Peters Mill & Taskers gap as a start or even Greenridge State Forest in MD.

All you have to do is say I’m going to blow stuff up. Don’t care what it is. I’m in. Lol. Especially if it’s improvised. But if you have an M21 Anti-tank mine I’m cool with that to. Something about piercing the belly of a tank and seeing nothing but pink mist in the morning is just exhilarating.

That 40 sq.mi. has to include the PTRC that they bought back around 2010. EMRTC proper in Socorro is only 26-ish sq.mi. If you go to Google Maps and measure, it's 5 miles and change north-south and east-west.

My job was making sure we put you guys in vehicles that didn't allow that to happen to you guys! Redesigning your protection to the threat flavor of the week/month/region/etc.

First and foremost safety. We always checked behind each other. Had lots of fun. But always made sure my guys were safe on the range.

Alright guys. Stay cool and be safe. Nap time for me
