Good grief, you bozos. Fast forward to the 21st century. Where 1/2 ton is not a weight designation anymore. Just a term referring to light-duty fullsize trucks. Same with 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks. Also, gay does not mean happy anymore. Although some gay people are happy, which there is nothing wrong with that.

Haha good to know. Maybe I can find an aluminum flat trailer or somethign

Thats the main thing. The 40 is set up and good to drive to the trails, but if something serious breaks im seriously hosed. Its 3 hours for me to get to hot springs. 6 to windrock. 3 to Hawks Pride. Thats a long haul towing with a 40 lol. Maybe I can find some super light aluminum trailer

Definitely do a car trailer instead of flat towing. Don’t get an aluminum trailer. Your main enemy isn’t weight towing the 40, it’s aerodynamics yanking that brick through the air. One of my buddies has had two aluminum trailers and both have cracked and broken in various places. One Stealth that broke all over the place and now an Alumina that retailed for over $7500 that had a stake pocket rip off that was holding the spare in a year.

At the end of the day it’ll come down to your comfort level with the truck and trailer going down the highway. My comfort level after pulling trailers of all sizes for 100’s of thousands of miles in all different kinds of trucks over the years will be far different than yours if you haven’t towed much before. Your Tacoma has a bunch of wheelbase and plenty of power for the load so it should be a stable platform...just stay out of 5th and 6th. Borrow a trailer and see how it feels behind the Tacoma would be the best thing you can do.

Good call. I have towed a lake boat in a trailer in a few full size trucks and thats like my only experience outside of pulling a tiny 1980s popup camper behind my old 80 series hahaha. I didnt think the taco had the power to pull it. When I loaded the bed with mulch I could definitley see and feel it!

You’ll definitely feel the 40 behind you but it won’t be outside design parameters either. Keep in mind that for years everybody got by with Chevy 350’s that had 200hp and 300 ft/lbs of torque mated to slushbox transmissions.

Yeah, and I have a ZERO degree sleeping bag that I'm comfortable in to 40 degrees...

Tacoma isn't a 1/2 ton truck by any stretch.

So max towing capacity of the Tacoma is like 5k lbs. the 40 with 37s is probably closer to 4K lbs and a 2k trailer would have me 1k over. Shouldn’t be too bad right? Maybe get stiffer rear leafs haha

I thought they were 64 or 6500? That’s SAE-J2807 certified too so no funny business to get that mark.

02 Tacoma, fixed with curse words.
I towed a jeep yj on 33s (lighter than a 40) on an 18ft car hauler with a GMC Sierra 1500 for a few years and hated it. Could not imagine towing a 40 on a trailer with a Tacoma, heavier vehicle with a lighter truck. If I'm going to be scared and worried driving to the trails, I'll just drive my wheeler there. After towing with my friends 3/4ton and a goose neck, that's all I would mess around towing with.

We have em up here too, you'll know you're close by an auto auction, when the nearby lots have the amigos removing bumpers, and daisy chaining vehicles together.

Okay, that's enough. The only real, technical definition of "1/2 ton truck" proves that the Tacoma is infact one of them. Today's "definition" is completely arbitrary and just follows opinions. End of story. Thanks and enjoy your Tacoma that has a payload capacity of 1/2 a ton!
