SE Idaho Part 1: Double Dose of Indian Hot Springs
    July 1, 2019.

The day started out just like any other. Well, any other where the previous included a 12-hour drive from home to the starting point of our next adventure.

So it was that, as we lay in bed, I looked over and said, "I've got an idea."

Hey! Get. Your. Head. Out. Of. The. Gutter.

See, we'd planned to spend the day heading to Indian Hot Springs via the east entrance - a dirt track that we'd been meaning to take since we'd first come to Idaho 18 months ago to pick up the CBI Outback Bumper. Having run our of time, we'd headed straight down to The Maze, Canyonlands, and we'd never made it back. Then, at dinner the night before, Ben reminded me that he and Kirsten had tried to reach the springs via the west entrance - stymied by a rock slide on the final descent down into the valley.

So I proposed to @mrs.turbodb that we try the west route first. And then, if we couldn't make it down, we'd drive around to the east. But if we could - and if we could ford the Bruneau River (since the bridge over the river had reportedly been out for a few years) - then we could do both sides on our way east towards City of Rocks, our next destination.

    Day 2...

As we pulled up to our spot - campsite #4 - at Twin Sisters, a surprise! Tents were already setup in "our spot." And what's this? - someone else's name on the reserved sign. Uh oh. I checked the reservation. Yep - I had a confirmation email, my credit card had been charged. And then, I noticed - we'd reserved spot #64 - as far away from Twin Sisters as you could physically get, a site that I'd looked at but - I thought - only in passing. There'd clearly been a snafu somewhere along the way - either in the web site, or between the keyboard and monitor.

How'd we get here and what did we see? Check it all out in Day 2: We Take Up Residence in Idaho's City of Rocks

I'm doing my RTT research, and the treeline was towards the top of my list (I"m weird in that I enjoy buying smaller company stuff). Few questions for you:

    - Are you in the US? Is it hard to purchase with them based in canada?
    - Why Treeline over the usual suspects (CVT, Tepui, etc)?
    - General feelings about the Tamarack?

Anybody else feel free to weigh in on Treeline. I'm looking at the Tamarack.

Hey guys, first time in this thread. Currently i have a Tepui Ayer, the GF and i bought it when it was just me and her, then our little mistake happened and we are looking at upgrading. Does anyone have experience with 23zero? I have been heavily considering picking up a Walkabout 72, the reason for this is that it is similar in size and shape as a Autana 4, this would give me the ability to run the weather hood and some other Tepui accessories

I am in Canada very near to Treeline’s head office which made purchase easy. I am not sure what getting one down to the US would look like, but I am sure the folks down at Treeline would work with you on it.

I looked at Tepui, CVT and a few other options but was impressed with the quality of materials and hardware on the Treeline. There are also some additional, well thought out features on the Treeline such as a pop down frame that holds the canopy tight.

We spent several nights in the Tamarack on our recent trip to the Arctic Ocean and I can honestly say that I am very happy with it. Its comfortable and does everything you expect from a RTT well.

    Hope that helps!

It helps quite a bit, thanks for the info. sounds like it's a great tent and my hurdle will be logistics adn associated pricing. it's at the top of my list.

When I was looking I exchanged some messages with them and could never get a solid estimate on the landed cost of the tent I wanted. Ended up ordering an iKamper x-Cover when they had their preorder sale back in January.

I have had the same tent for nearly 3 years now. It has been solid, in heavy rain and high winds even. As with most of them, and it's probably been stated on here but make sure to check it over thoroughly when you do receive it. Make sure all your zippers are functional and smooth. Check all of the seams to make sure the weatherstripping/tape is covering everything it needs. Check the fabric. Etc.

When I bought mine a tip was also to check around any of the metal for burs from drilling, I'd grind them smooth with a dremel just so they don't wear on the fabric.
I also had to drill like 3 sets of auxiliary holes in the ladder to fit the heights I needed.

Again I love the tent, it's been comfortable and secure. My only 2 complaints with it are the straps for the cover and ladder are shit, they will fall apart within the year so plan on a solution for that unless they've made significant changes. The other is the rain fly. I've always stayed dry but the fabric dips everywhere so it can collect some water. These are minor, just giving you a heads up. Enjoy the tent!

    SOS bedrack with the Softopper?

I'm really thinking I want to change my setup to something like this. I've got the 10"KB Voodoo right now and I just want to he able to utilize my bed more and protect the inside from the elements.

How are you liking yours and how do you feel about the trucks handling and mpg with it that high above the roofline? I haven't combed this entire thread, I'm sure it's been covered. Just wondering your personal feelings on it.

    Hey all,

Also looking at a Smittybilt Overland for now. The comments here have been greatly helpful. I generally see new prices for ~$775. Just curious what you folks typically see for new pricing? I've seen a few used ones floating around my area, some in the $700 range, which seems steep to me.

I'm looking at this as a short term solution to my overland set-up while I get the rest of the rig set-up. Then I can invest in a more high quality tent, likely in a year or two.

After a bit more reading, I'll probably be tempted to instead up my budget a tad and get a slightly bigger tent (seen a few used CVT Shasta's show up) and I like the appeal of a bit more space. Being 6'3, I'd like to fit my gf and a 70lb dog... I'm not sure that's an option with the Overland.

I also have the smitty built rtt and I love it! I went with it because it was on the cheaper side of rtts. I’m only about 5’6 but I can lay down with my arms stretched out above my head and still have some space.

My gf and I fit well with our two dogs, although they’re on the smaller side. Yorkie(12lbs) and a mini Aussie(35lbs).

I dont think you’ll be disappointed for the price range. I got mine at 4 wheel parts and they price matched Amazon while it was on sale!
