I've learned to be skeptical of Ranger's conditions reports. Looking at Google Satellite view the road looks pretty straight forward. No high clearance really needed. Edit: but you never know till you get there.

Yup, that's how long my friend is going for. It'll be his family's longest backpacking trip so far. It's him, his wife, their 12 yr old son, 10 yr old daughter and his 2 brothers are flying in from Boston today.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

I was up there about three weeks ago. When I was up there, there was a good sized tree that was laying across the road about a mile away from Bourland Meadows. We left the tree across the road because there were also snow drifts on the road where if someone tried to pass them and messed up they would have rolled off the road. (I imagine the snow drifts are gone by now. If the tree is still there, it'll be gone Saturday afternoon, when I get there lol)

Rangers are exaggerating... I would drive a Ford Escape size/type vehicle up there without hesitation. You just want to take the most direct route from 31 (3N01) as you can. If you take one of the longer ways, you could have problems (or have a creek crossing).

There is one section, about 1/3rd up from 3N01 where there road has some pretty good/deep ruts in the road, but you should be able to pass by on one side.

You're on the right track that Crabtree isn't that far (however it'll take half the day to wind around fire roads from Crabtree Trailhead to Bourland Meadows), but the road up to Bourland is quite a bit rougher than the road up to Crabtree, but it's still passable in an SUV and/or Xover.

All this talk about the Crabtree / Bourland Meadows area... I'll be up there (below Crabtree) at Bell Meadows tonight, and most likely Bourland Meadows tomorrow night.

We'll have HAM sandwiches on the normal flavor offroaders use

Something Cooper. Probably ST Maxx instead of STT Pro but not 100% on it yet.

Oh here I go again, quoting myself.
This is kinda sounded one sided. Like I would be the one having a beer. I meant to say both could and I always have beer for such things.
Also I always have a beer. Just thought it would be better with good company.
I guess this kinda goes for TW folks in the area or that may be.

Either 285/75/17 or 315/70/17. Trying to convince myself to get the 285/75/17 but I know if I get that size, I'll regret not having the 315s...

But I do hear 37s are the new 35s...

    Gotcha.
Let me know if you decide to go 315s.
I have a damn near new set of STMaxx and have been thinking strongly about going STT Pros.
Maybe we could make things happen

Ive been debating 285/75/17s for a while now, im not sure I'm ready for the trim work "required" for those tires yet and im not sure how much ill enjoy my stock gearing with those. Im currently on 265/75/16's and am ready to move up when i pickup some wheels (17" Ray10s), im just not sure if i wanna go 285/70 or 285/75... i constantly go back and fourth lol
