Alright doll-face, c'mon and bore me!
Well, if you're going to quote me, you should do it in context. Here's what I was responding to:

I read that as: "Nothing happened (this time), so what's the big deal?" It sounded dismissive to me, and I have the same reaction to this as when someone in their 20s, who doesn't have health insurance, says "Hey, I'm perfectly healthy, why should I buy health insurance? I'll buy it later on when I NEED it. Ha!"

Sure, @jmauvais later when on to talk about Cali's stricter building codes (that's great), and how nothing really bad has happened yet, so everything must be fine. Mmmm, not sure I'm buying that. That Northridge quake in '94 looks like it caused a bit more than nothin'.

    upload_2019-7-19_13-13-42.jpg

    upload_2019-7-19_13-21-10.jpg

Maybe it's relative. If you weren't one of the 57 dead, 8700 injured, or 125,000 left homeless*, then i guess it wasn't so bad.

Even when the people in a given area are prepared for something, poop still happens. Chicago is as prepared for heavy snowfall as any city in the North, and yet...

    upload_2019-7-19_13-30-33.jpg
    Lake Shore Drive, Chicago, 2011

...and I still see people every winter, driving, apparently without an ice scraper or snow brush since the snow's piled a foot high on their car and they're peering out of a hole in the snow on their windshield that their defroster managed to melt.

Some threats are obvious (earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, snowstorms). Some not so obvious...

Lac-Mégantic (Quebec) train car derailment, 2013

My original point was that everyone, everywhere, should be minimally prepared to deal with adversity both at home and on the road. I wasn't picking on Californians, just using them as the latest example of how *most* (not all) people do not think ahead. @jmauvais says that he has provided ample emergency supplies for his family so he can go out and do his (very important) job. That's fantastic, I would just like to see more people doing this.

Not today but last night found a sport hood semi local and he agreed to meet up after I got off work (1 1/2 hour drive arriving at 2130). Get his hood off and set aside so we can take mine from my truck to his as a courtesy. As were bolting on the sport hood I notice a water spot in the rear near the windshield and go to wipe away and it doesn’t. A solid dent at the rear crease. I checked under the hood and there’s no way to access the spot to have the dent pushed out and reshaped without cutting into the lower support. Tell the guy no deal as he wanted cash on top of the trade on his end. Swapped back and left.

I was so exited that whole day thinking about it and left empty handed! But I was pretty glad that I was able to overcome my instant gratification and hold out. Now to find another person to swap with.

Nice. You have the AT’s, because the $1100 I spent on the Wildpeak MT01’s seems like the biggest waste of money I’ve spent on my truck

Installed some amber morimoto fogs and I decided to play around with a can of white plastidip. I gave my engine cover the ol tactical faded old glory treatment and sprayed my dash trim. Overall very happy with it all.
