HIDs in 2019 taco

ok...stupid question, can i put HIDs 35 watt in my stock oem tacoma projector? without melting projector or anything else? have leds now but want more light. the HIDs im buying are plug and play! local shop has many different brands and colors.
5000k is pure white?

 

Yes most definitely. You can put a 35w HID kit in virtually any reflector or projector headlight without melting anything. No problem. Even with 50 or 55w you likely won’t have a problem but I’d stick with 35w if I were you.

 

5000k vs 6000k which is whiter? different sites have different opinions

 

4300k is what most OEM use. It’s the color of sunlight.
5000k will have some blue but will usually look okay.
Anything above 5000k looks blue in my opinion.

 

5000k is a better choice. It will be a more useable light color in ALL weather conditions. Any higher than 5000k and you’re sacrificing actual performance for the sake of “a more blue color”. Most factory Xenon bulbs are 4100-4300k. I personally have 35w 4300k in my retrofitted projectors.

 

Not only are you correct, but it is factual. The higher on the Kelvin scale you go, the more blue/purple the light gets. 5000k is absolutely best unless you’re a real lighting nerd like me, then you stick with 4300k

 

since i have led fogs and bar....i want to try to match....so 5000k is the whitest? 6000k hint of blue?

 

I’m a lighting nerd. When I do retro some HIDs into the Tacoma, I will go as far as to get Osram DS2 4300k rebased onto H11 bases. I don’t want some wonky Chinese made bulb with odd light temps. I’ll stick with Osram and their quality.

 

Use led bulbs instead of hids. Way better.

 

You’re getting really “subjective” with your question. A 6000k HID kit might look a little more blue than your light bar and fog lights. 5000k won’t look blue as it’s projected in front of the truck. 6000k might have a slight blue tint to the light you project in front of the truck. I’d say to stick with 5000k

 

Actually not true. LED bulbs don’t outperform HID bulbs for a VARIETY and plethora of reasons.

 

It depends on who makes the lights. I have 5000k leds in my cab for map lights. I ordered 5000k dome light. The map lights are perfect white and the dome looks yellow in comparison.

I prefer 4300 but you probably want 5000k.

 

Heck. Yes. I’m running a Morimoto HID kit in an Acme super H1 retrofit. Killer performance for a budget retrofit.

 

HIDs are not made for “any reflector”... unless you just love blinding people...

Good idea. Best to look at light bar manufacturer. I know my Baja designs LED lights are a very spe

relax. I was telling him that a 35w hid kit can work in any of those settings without melting. I wasn’t encouraging the use of an HID kit in a reflector housing.

 

Not to mention I saw that OP has a 3rd gen and I realize that he’s referring to a projector HID setup

 

Stuck between these two options:

First one has great bulbs. Second one I trust the ballasts but I am not sure about the bulbs.

i have never had a problem with Morimoto’s. I read about a ton of issues with their stuff in recent times but I myself trust the Morimoto seal. Build quality is superb
