That seems high unless you are adding front locker parts. Call Slee Off-road if you are OK with driving to Golden. 4.88 Nitro gears with the install were around $2800-$2900 if I remember including the ECGS sleeve parts.

That also includes the 1st break-in gear oil change at around 500 miles.

As of now I’m going with the Altitude Off-road in Castle Rock for $2500, that’s the gears, labor and tax. Already have the ECGS done.

Contact @thefatkid he does most of the gear installs in CO, highly recommended by everyone. He has done mine as well as several other TW members. He is honest and fair and an all around great guy.

Just pulled the trigger on 5.29s. Looks like the fronts are on backorder for awhile.
I elected to buy the complete setups from ECGS. Dealer quoted me $1000 or less to install. I’m thinking that the rear is a pretty easy install. Anyone done this on there own yet?

My 5.29 s are whining around 50-60 mph, especially going downhill. Nitro Gear installed by a professional shop. Oil changed at 500 miles after break-in. Is anyone else having this issue? Is this typical of a 5.29s or is this a potential warranty claim?

Nitro tends to be a little bit louder when broken in then Yukon. Noticed it in a couple of my trucks. That’s why I usually go with Yukon now cause I’m picky.

Normal Very common in aftermarket gears. Mine do as well and have like 20k miles on them.

Okay, so I’ve only read through the first 26 pages, so forgive me if this has been covered...
I have a 17 SR 2.7 5 speed that I feel is greatly under geared from the factory, so I’m interested in eventually regearing. Does anyone have experience with 5.29 or 4.88s with this engine/transmission combo? I don’t have any current plans on going any larger than 265/75/16 tires

Toyota went with 3.91 for the 5 speed, and 4.3 on the automatics for whatever reason. As far as extra weight, I have sliders and 1/4” thick aluminum front skid. Me and the wife kayak almost weekly, and with all the extra weight the truck really struggles, especially in the mountains
