Has anyone figured out a way to add larger framed license plate to the back of the truck? I tried putting my school alumni plate and it didn't fit.

Just wondering if someone had found a work around besides drilling new holes into the back.

Yours is bigger than this guy:

If so, you could redrill the plate and / or frame to match the bumper holes? I did that upfront to match the wider holes of the big ass stock plate mount.

    It is actually.

I'm trying to mount this one on my 3rd Gen:

And the holes seem to be out of wack. I was thinking maybe someone had finagled some type of bracket or something.

Like you are thinking, you could get a sheet of plastic (or 3D print one) to match the Taco. Then raise your plate and frame enough to clear the existing screws and attach to the plastic with four short screws?

Good idea! I'm going to get to the drawing boards and see what I can come up with.

    Thanks!

Have fun! We have toll lanes up here that are supposed to be free for motorcycles. After getting refunds on 19 erroneous tolls, I made my own tucked plate bracket:

It was fun to mess around with.

Woah! That's really cool how you did that. Was that A 3D print like you suggested?

    Thanks!

Yeah. The place that I was at was developing aircraft parts using a PET-like material. For desktop printing, it was a very strong material that passed a lot of tough environmental tests. I got to play around when the machines were not busy.

If you have any CAD experience, AutoDesk Fusion 360 is a really nice program to mess around with. You can get a free home licence because they are promoting the link between it and 3D printing.

I miss having access to a quality printer. Once things slow down a bit, I am going to get one at home.

Lucky for me the University I work for has a state of the art 3D printer. I might have to talk to the guys in the engineering department to try to figure something out. hopefully the plastic will hold.

    Nice!

They should have access to the good stuff. No ABS or PLA. If they have a sweet HP FusionJet printer that fuses nylon, that would be the best route. Otherwise, PET!

My plate has been flopping around back there for 2.5yr with no problems while being exposed to chain grease and all kinds of crap from the roads.

Go in with the basic dimensions that you'll need (they'll really appreciate that) and I bet they'd gen something up just for the fun of it. You're slapping on a Cal plate ring anyway. It's on topic. :D

Oh okay got it. Either fused nylon or PET. I'll draw up some sketches this weekend and see what they think. HAHA.
