What Would You Do?

Greetings All....

I have a confirmed bad head gasket on my daily driver 06 Tacoma Doublecab Short bed Prerunner TRD Sport. Its got 315k miles.

The stealership recommends just yanking the old motor and putting in a used motor. ($3000 +/-).
OR
Stealership said with my mileage it would be a waste of time to Replace head gaskets ($3000 +/-).
OR
Rebuilt motor ($5500 +/- plus labor of about $2500+/-).
OR
Get a "new" used vehicle. ($20k on up). Really not in my budget without a major financial restructure.

What would you do? Be brutally honest please.

 

R&R with a good used motor if the truck and frame are still nice. Good luck

 

Get away from the dealership!!!!! Find a good local mechanic like I did on my 2005 when my head gasket needed to be done and pay less then half of what you’re being quoted.

Assuming it’s not an emergency (like it’s not your daily / only vehicle), take your time to shop around

If there’s life left in the rest of the truck then it’s worth hanging on to

 

I only took it to the stealership for a 2nd opinion.
Not gonna have them do the work.

 

Besides the motor problem the only other real problem is the paint is jacked up and its not a 4wd.

 

are you trying to get in a 4x4? if so now's your chance.

 

Get a used vehicle, spending 10K.

 

If I go the used motor route, I can get a newer model year motor than the 06 right?

What year would you recommend?

 

What Dreamland do you live in where I can get a decent Tacoma for $10k?
