Well if you go on the website and look for them, they give you the VIN and if the 4th position is a V on a 92-93 it's got the 3vz fe

While you have them out, if you have the money, time, or expertise, I would get the "flat" surfaces machined so they are actually flat. If they are like mine, there was quite a bit of warping on the turbo flange from the welding. Otherwise, use wood stove cement to seal the turbo and flange. Toyota's multi-layered steel gasket seams to be ok for sealing the headers to the engine but I would still get those resurfaced as well.

Is there a reason this isn't marketed towards auto use?

I'll check out the surfaces when I get that far with an edge and flashlight and see what the clearances are like. I'm hoping I got lucky and won't have to do that but we'll see.

Not sure. It was recommended on ttora.com (they have a lot more turbo users and experience over there). That metal crush gasket typically used is going to leak unless the surfaces are perfectly flat. Even then, its not recommended.

The cement dries into a... well cement for lack of better terms. I was a bit skeptical it would survive thermal expansion and contraction due to the lack of flexibility you generally get with silicon gaskets but so far its help up great. It chips off easy, much easier than silicon based gaskets (I hate getting that crap off), and can be sanded off easy if needed in spots. To apply, clean both surfaces, wet both surfaces, then apply the cement (it comes out a bit watery).

Got the motor and tranny pulled. Just gotta split the two, load the motor onto the truck and haul all of it back to my place so I can get it on an engine stand and get to work.
