I have a Thinkware dashcam and when the impact sensor goes off it makes an audible beep. I'm convinced that's what scared a thief who failed to break a window into running away instead of taking a second shot. A lighted dash cam may thwart someone, it may draw others in, but I really think the audio notification surprise would scare away almost any thief who's going to smash and grab something.

Fun fact, apparently spark plug ceramic is a fantastic way to break a window. I come out in the morning to see a big pile of white powder stuck to my driver's window. I had no clue someone had tried to break in and I was so confused as to what it could be, I thought it was bird shit. I scraped it off with an ice scraper and noticed that it has left a score mark at the center of the impact. Sure enough some upstanding citizen had attempted to help himself to my car. This all happened 15 minutes before I walked out the door. I'm glad I wasn't leaving early.

Interesting, cuz the only place my truck cares about the geographic location of the key is in the ignitions key slot. If I shut down, exit vehicle with key and don't lock it, it will self lock in 45 sec? And in the similar circumstance but leave your key on the seat, walk away to take a wiz and it won't self lock? Just looking to square this up.

Indeed, that is auto RElock, means if you remote unlock then don't open a door, it RElocks it. It does not care where the key is. It won't lock after time shutting down and exiting the buggy based on key proximity

What the above guy said. The relocking feature only applies when the vehicle is locked prior. You’re going out unlock the door but realize you forgot something. Truck notices you didn’t get in and relocks.

Or at least that’s my understanding. I can’t test it at this time

Your doors were most likely unlocked and your neighbor probably left a spare key to his car in his unlocked Mercedes. Sometimes I hear people will leave a spare to their one car in their other car so when they leave one car unlocked the other gets stolen.

Someone broke into my truck a couple weeks ago.

They stole 2 pairs of dollar store sunglasses...

They were prolly too tweaked out to think to look in the center console where I had some tools.

As others have said, people just go around at night and try car doors. F@$king scumbags. Now I’m always sure to lock my doors.
