Windshield Chip

So I have been lucky and never chipped a windshield in any of the trucks I have owned UNTIL I buy my Taco. It was not chipped when I drove it off the lot last friday but last Sunday when I got in sure enough there was a small chip from a rock I am assuming. Anyone my question is I went and bought one of the home kits from Advance for like $12, should I use it or call and have a professional glass guy fix it for me?

 

Have a pro do it..and sooner rather then later. It's worth the extra few bones to have them do it.

Every heating/cooling cycle it goes thru and all the more stuff that gets on/in it the less likely the repair will stick and the more likely the chip is the crack.

stick a small piece of clear 3m tape over it till you can get it fixed by a pro, it keeps it clean and keeps water out & works.

 

Have a pro do it. Just make sure they guarantee their work. A generic receipt is not good enough. Make sure they specify the truck, license plate or even the last few digits of the VIN in order to identify that that truck is the one they worked on. Some guy I had called on lost the tip of his bit in the glass. Just my luck! He ended up sealing it in there because he would have had to drill it out and I didnt want that to make the glass worse. Cover all your bases.

 

In CA, some insurance companies will REPAIR it for free, if repairable. If the windsheild needs to be replaced it will be a comprehensive claim. You'll have to pay the deductible, which in most cases isn't worth it...
