    Just ordered my hitch!

I used to tow a 2700 lb popup with with usually about 500 lbs of crap in the bed of the Taco. With myself, my two little boys (350 lbs), a 200+ cap, full tank of fuel, two 20lb propane tanks and a 60 lb Marine battery on the tongue, only made my Taco squat a tiny bit.
    ,
I might have been okay without a WDH, but I feel better now that I'll have one. Besides, it just looks bad when your going down the hwy with the rear end of your truck all squatted down.

    Thanks everyone for your info!

I hope you got a sway control system, as well

I'm a fan of having overkill gear when I tow, this is our Hideout 19FLB 4200lbs, WDH for sure, brake controller, and friction sway bar, and scangauge to watch temps.. Next up is airbags and additional trans cooler.

Just got back from a weekend camping trip. The truck did excellent - while towing at 100kmh on the highway the coolant and trans temps were both stable at 90c (194f). Stayed in 4th with ECT on, noticed it was a lot more comfortable and quiet than our 2nd gen was.

    Vehicle:
    2017 Tacoma OR 4x4 (formerly a 1998 SR5 PU, 2002 OR 4x4, 1995 4x4 4Runner, 1985 4x4 Toy PU) ... and RIP’s (rust in pieces) to a Bronco II 4x4 & S10 Blazer 4x4
Get them - the Truck’s anti-sway system is good, but if you combine it with distribution bars that also act as anti-sway you will be very happy. Also consider Firestone airbags with Daystar cradles if you offroad, or without the cradles if you dont.

Curious why your considering air bags? The truck is sitting pretty level with the trailer on.

In that pic it looks not too bad, and with the wdh on it keeps it level. Hitting bumps on the highway causes a bit of porpoising - and going slow over things like a speed bump really hammers the bump stops of the rear susp. I think adding the airbags is a pretty easy fix for the times when we are towing. We keep the cap on always, and make other road trips with the back full of stuff - plus the odd load of gravel/mulch/river rocks my wife loves to add to our yard...

I also know from our 2nd gen that going to E rated tires from these P series makes a big difference to how steady it feels going down the road with the trailer on.

My TT is around the same weight and I'm using an Equalizer hitch and haven't found it necessary to add to the rear suspension and I haven't felt the bump stops.

Going to hijack/borrow this thread. My wife and I are contemplating an TT, a forest river wildwood fsx 167rb. 3000# dry, 4000# loaded, 350 at hitch all advertised # and 22’ long. Looking for info, experience or thoughts from anyone who has towed similar. I have read a ton of threads, I think I have realistic expectations of the truck, a class a cdl (haven’t used in 15yrs). I don’t expect 75mph on the interstate, or 65mph up a grade, really looking for S4, ECT and 2500-3500 rpm. Just looking for real world knowledge from similar, pics of your setup are great to.

    Thanks

You wont have any issues. Just sold my TT that was a similar weight but a touch bigger. Never had a problem but I would suggest a aftermarket cooler. The one on the truck is fairly small. Also have a meathod to monitor your trans temps. I sold my trailer to buy a bigger one.

Holy bat balls Batman, picked up the trailer today, I am definitely buying a weight distribution hitch. Squirrelly is all I can say. I am looking at buying the 10k rated fastway e2, comes with the ball and only $25 more the 6k one without a ball. The truck has the power (ECT & S4) and soon OVTUNE, just not quite the suspension for it.

Going bigger on the WD is not a good idea. Run the 6K. The spring bars are designed to flex with the tongue weight. The 10K bars are too rigid if your not towing more than 6K. Etrailer I believe has some info on it.

Yeah, you should have bought that with the trailer bud.

Once you buy the WD with the sway control you won't have an issue in a properly loaded trailer to achieve 15% tongue weight. My 3k trailer loaded to just under 4K was rock steady. My new trailer which weight just under 5K using the same 6k WD hitch is also very stable.

Once you have the WD your probably not going to require any suspension upgrades. The WD bars removes weight from the rear axle and puts more weight on the front axle and trailer.
