What happens when the light sensor is blocked? To what "setting" does it default to?

I second this hope, I'd like to just have a day/normal mode so the gauges and console thing nothing has changed (ie the lights are off) when it's daytime and I turn on the lights. Then I'd flip the switch back at night so it acts like normal with my typical low brightness settings.

I see what dman100 posted and I see that light sensor on my dash (passenger dash speaker) but evidently on my truck (2018 trd OR m/t no tech package) it is connected to nothing? because I do not have auto setting headlights, just high beams, and clearly the truck is sensing no ambient light as it thinks it's night time even in broad daylight.

When the light sensor is blocked, the display dims. Not sure if the buttons along the left also dim equally.

I'm either derping hard or am also in the same boat as you. I see numerous people mention auto headlights but I'm unaware of how to activate them. I have auto brights but I'm not a fan of that feature. Need to go dig in the manual to see if I'm just missing it.

I remember reading that in the manual before buying the truck. Definitely don't have that. My stalk has Off, DRL, and modes 1 & 2 per above. No auto. Now I need to see if I could retroactively mod that in.

I *think* that’s been discussed and not possible, or at least more pain than anyone is willing to accept. But don’t hold me to that.

For anyone not wanting to cut the TAIL input wire, get parts, assemble and leave green wire out of new harness.

If switch is wanted, the harness also provides ACC fused power from the wire (GRAY) providing power to Head Unit.

Type B is what I have. Is type A something you have to add on, part of earlier/later models, or not a USA thing? If I'm being honest, I probably wouldn't use it that much as I prefer manual control. Would like daylight sensor though.

@caribe makaira on point with the wiring though. Time to order me up some parts!

The stalk is expensive, the sensor also. And the adding of those doesn't guarantee their function, so far as I know. Type A is on Taco's with all the gadgets...mostly.

Did you make a new harness to avoid splicing OEM wires?

How do i make my clock not dim when i turn on the headlights. I cut the wire for the overhead compass and now that stays bright. What wire will work for the clock?
