check for cracks in the paint (rock chips, newer trucks probably have better rocker panel tech/coatings?),
prepare yourself for knuckle numbing evenings at the local spray-n-wash and frozen doors in the mornings

 

I let mine go through the winter unless it gets above freezing and give it a good washing in the spring.

 

Hmm, got some already from this past weekend of wheeling. slammed my hitch a few times on some rock shelves, scraped my crossmember up some, and got some rock chips up front and on the rocker panels. Surprisingly enough no damage to my front skid.

 

i gotta hose down my doorjams, tailgate area, suspension, fender wells, gastank, the works ... to the point of frostbite

and yet this past winter i still found the very first bubble under paint in a place never thought I would, in the soft seam near the back of the drivers door

 

you don't have any protective film on your rockers? ... any on the hood?

nope and yeah its not really a common thing, I want to do a wrap on the truck or the rocker panels at least.

 

Fluid Film yourself or if you have one near you, I've heard Krown is good as well. Stay away from the rubberized undercoating places as water can get trapped under it and make it even worse.

Speaking of - what does Ziebart use? Anyone had undercoating down there? Not sure if they use rubberized or oil based like Krown...

Also, are there professional places that do Fluid Film? Wouldn't mind paying a pro to do the initial treatment and get in all the nooks, crannies, frame holes, doors, etc. and then just do touch up myself from there in the fall seasons.

 

I'll be sure to do so and that doesn't sound like a bad idea to get it done professionally first and then keep doing touch-ups.

Only scratches you can see on my Tacoma are the black plastic fender flares. I’ve got 1 pin stripe on the tundra from Missouri and no one notices it unless I point it out.
