Unless you are ascending or descending a steep ass hill and not in a parking lot with fake as moguls.

Land Rover and even the new Ranger can be smooth why can't Toyota?

Definitely agree never to rely on it. Just another tool in the shed. Cheers.

Because Toyota is using a constant application of the ABS system to give you a feature that isn’t a gimmick, but a powerful tool.

-The ranger ‘Trail Control’ rolls backwards every so often and makes you shit your pants on the way up steep stuff. Ford does not seem to be using the brake-indexing that is what makes Crawl Control such a safe system in very steep terrain.

-The Land Rover system will work for 2 months then cost you $26,000 to fix, with a special wrench you need to order from the Ukraine.

    Wrong

    You don't just have 580/1.
That's just the largest reduction with all three transfer cases in low.

You have 50 some gears, bro. Yes, one would be wise to select a gear that works well for the particular situation.

Also, you're not likely to "granade" anything. Most likely thing that would happen is a spiral fracture of an axle.

What kind of front locker did you install?

Regardless, the system functions smoother. It doesn't have to be jerky. Toyotas implementation at low speeds seem to be on or off the brake with no in between

Not when you are on steep terrain.

Anyone using crawl control, at minimum speed, on level ground, doesn’t know what they are doing, and for sure should go trade in their Tacoma for a Landrover with 80 series tires on wheels you are not allowed to change.

I honestly rarely use CC. When I do, it’s usually after I’ve already gotten past the obstacle(s) using other functions like the rear locker. Then I might go back and hit it with CC. There’s a lot to be said about a lil common sense and a rear locker. I’ve never had to really rely on CC yet but I’m sure that day will come, and it will be nice to have another trick up my sleeve to try

Because low traction scenarios only exist on steep terrain

Because you only want the brakes and the gas applied simultaneously in steep scenarios. Crawl control makes no sense on level ground. It does not increase traction, it indexes progress when wheel spin would cause undesired effects.

If you find yourself needing additional traction on level ground, consider MTS, or maybe push the gas pedal a bit harder, or air down the tires.

Which isn't at all how it's marketed.

I do agree, MTS is where it is as and always overlooked in favor of cc.

    I agree.

The marketing of crawl control is a fail. I feel it was aimed at new off-roaders worried about getting stuck. Crawl control does not get you unstuck. Stuck is stuck.

The engineering behind the system is solid, which is why Toyota offers it on flagship products like LandCruiser. It’s just not really the system described in the Tacoma marketing.

If you ever need it, you’ll be glad you’ve got it. It’s not a relaxing system to use, so it’s gotta be a “crawl control or death” situation before I think to turn it on.
