That’s the last resort for me if I can’t buy a premade one in time. I messaged JLee over at BAMF to see if I can have one made before the 10th.

Tepui is also having a local sale at their warehouse by Santa Cruz. Going to go visit them and pick up a tent if the deal is good enough.

It’s nice being local to these companies, I’m only a 30-45 minute drive from either place.

If I actually need something then I’ll do it on time. I don’t need a bumper nor do I need a snorkel. They’re just for shits and giggles.

In terms of storage, space, and relative price - yeah you’re totally right. The whole appeal of the RTT is how easy setup and breakdown is. Only real downside is how hard it is to store when not on the truck.

Dan's prices are cheap too compared to what other companies are charging.

But yeah, if you have the means, I'd recommend making one yourself.

This. Setup in 5 mins, super small to carry, and just all around more practical.

    2 is 1, 1 is none.

I regularly backpack and recently downsized to 2 ultra light tents; a Nemo Hornet (less than 2lb) and a Big Agnes HV UL2 (less than 3lb).

I don't care to use these tents if I'm going to drive up to a spot (dispersed camping), and set up camp because although my tents don't weigh much at all, they're not the most spacious of tents. Plus, each of these tents normally reside in one of my many packs that I own. Again, these are for backpacking.

Having an RTT separate of that is very convenient on top of providing the extra space that my ultra light's don't provide.

I don't own an RTT yet, but I do own a much larger tent for dispersed camping, and I'd rather much put up an RTT than set up my large tent.

    I have mods
Temporary solution until you can have one made is what I did.

I think I spent all of $50 to slap this together and it worked great, just limited what you can store in the bed height wise. 1.75" .120 wall tube, 24" of 1"x1" angle iron and 4 exhaust clamps.

And yes, I used the tent with those bars.

Later, I added some lift to the bars and they are rock solid with the tent on it. Still super cheap with maybe $150 total invested.

I can fit pretty much anything I need to in the bed now with around 22" of clearance to the bottom of the bars. And the tent is above the cab by only a couple inches.

Well done. How high off the ground does the tent need to be to run an annex?

I upgraded my wipers from 17".
19" on driver side and 18" on passenger.

Haha that's unique, would've never thought to lengthen the wipers. I've been meaning to do the Honda washer nozzle upgrade.

I mean yeah a rtt is cool when your using it. But what about the other majority of the time its not being used? Imo, it would become a big pita at least in my house.

I just dont agree with the idea that you have to have a rtt to go camping with your truck that a lot of people on this forum love to promote.

I agree, for most on here it won't be used a lot of the time which is why I see them pop up for sale regularly.

An RTT would live permanently on my truck though when I get one; it's a 5th car for me so I'll drive something else to work and everywhere else.

Could be the case or not for others on the forum.

Rather keep my UL tents to limited use however and only use them for backpacking; too expensive to be taking them out on regular outings only to get tore up/etc.
